Every 4 weeks I have a Friday night show on Unmade Radio, Portsmouth, UK showcasing underground electronic music from smaller, independent labels, self-releasing artists and small producers. Championing the little guys and gals, each show features a blend of 'fluff' and 'bass' which represents my own musical style as a DJ and producer - beautiful, melodic, uplifting and sometimes bitter-sweet sounds give way to tougher, funkier tech-house and techno vibes in the second hour, laced with broken beats and bassier music styles. Packed full of behind the scenes info about the music makers themselves, their projects, and the labels they run, I'll provide a full track list for each F.A.B. show.

This episode is a break from my usual format to bring you BOTH the sets I played at the Boomtown Garden Centre put on by Deevstock at Boomtown Fair the other week. 1st hour is the high energy house set I had the privilege of opening the festival with on the Thursday, with a funky, filthy breakbeat mix in the second hour that I played late Friday night to a messy, up for it dancefloor.

This week on @DarkScienceElectro we highlight the work of UK Electro wizard Phil Klein, also known as Bass Junkie.

Starting in 1996, Phil began 'Battle Trax' (@pak-jamz) to distribute his brutal brand of bass-fuelled beats, though he has released music since 94. Fans were soon enjoying large doses of Cybernet Systems, Final Dreams, Industrial Bass Machines and Kronos Devices - all variants of the highly addictive Bass Junkie sound. Dovetail: blending tough and soaring beats

Portsmouth based electronic music artist and researcher Sam, took her life-long love of electronic dance music to the next level when she taught herself to DJ. She's now taken her first steps into production, with her first EP hitting the No.1 spot on the Beatport Top 100 Breaks Releases chart in Dec 2020! A champion of small labels, self producers, and minority gender artists, behind the decks she's known for her infectious energy, drive and sense of fun, and spinning genre-spanning tunes - if it makes her heart soar, her hips shake, or her face bass, it's in! And her productions look set to continue in the same vein.

Off the decks, she's the brains behind research project and radio show 'In the Key of She' (SISU Presents, now on Threads Radio) investigating how it is for women carving a space for themselves in the male-dominated underground techno and tech-house scenes. This project, looks at the life and careers of female producers in underground electronic music scenes and epitomises the bringing together of music and curiosity that is Dovetail.
