Portland based songwriter Leo Islo continues to go from strength to strength with each subsequent release. ‘Lush Life’ is Islo’s first original of 2017 as the artist opens a new chapter in his already promising career.

Raw, untamed bass lines with Leo’s signature grainy distortion gives the track an undeniably, powerful character. A mixture of ambient chords, undulating pads, and field recordings add a variety of textures to the song.

Tapping vocalist Dani Poppitt for this single reveals Islo’s progression as a budding composer and songwriter. Her captivating solo and beautiful, harmonic pairing with Islo will leave you breathless. Capped off with several electrifying guitar solos, ‘Lush Life’ will certainly leave fans wanting more.

LEO ISLO is the moniker of Portland-based producer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Matt Pahler.

Born in Santiago, Chile and raised in the small mountain city of Flagstaff, Arizona, LEO ISLO amassed an eclectic mix of art from the world around him, instilling a sense of wanderlust at a young age. By 17 and armed with a fake ID, he began touring as a drummer playing at a variety of venues across Arizona from local bars and clubs to casinos and popular lounges. It wasn’t long before his desire and self-motivation lead him to songwriting and learning guitar.

It was during a move from Los Angeles to Portland that LEO ISLO found himself drawn to the world of electronic music for the first time. Artists like Jai Paul, Neon Indian, Toro Y Moi, Caribou, Washed Out, and Grimes became early influences on his approach to production, fueling his propensity to create tracks with retro-soaked synths, ethereal pop vocals, warm guitar lines, and analog driven beats.

Retro Kid is back, with the first single from his debut album ’Nordic Noir’. ‘Nordic Noir’ shares electronic producer Jake Juba’s first hand experiences of nightlife as a “Copenhagener” . The album is laid out like an audible metro line and the first stop is ’Neon Colours’. Jake’s journey is shared with Danish vocalists Christiane and Christian, just to add a touch of authenticity to the concept.


‘Neon Colours’ is a song about Jake’s favourite smokey bodega / pub in Copenhagen called Cafe Malmö. A basement bar often filled with crazy characters and a cracking old duke box that blares out the likes of the doors and fleetwood mac. Unfortunately, times are changing and the old fruitful barflies have gone. What remains is the hipster youth preaching about how nostalgic they feel when listening to songs older than they are.
