"the inspiration for this mix came from a special afterparty where i DJ’d after a rave i had co-organized in montreal last october. i had spent most of the night dealing with the cops and got a fine for noise. once at the afterparty, i got to channel my frustration into music; i played dub techno for hours. to me, the airy but deep grooves of that music provide space for both introspection and release. hope you feel it too."

Peder Mannerfelt splits the difference between playful immediacy and daring experimentation. You’re as likely to find him premiering a live show at Berlin’s Atonal festival as pulling apart fabled techno meccas from Berghain to Fabric with synapse-frying precision. One minute he’s being asked to remix Björk, and the next he’s dropping EPs of non-conformist techno for Karenn’s Voam label.

As a prolific collaborator throughout his career, Mannerfelt has veered from the orchestral tension of Roll The Dice (with Malcolm Pardon) to the anything-goes maximalism of Aasthma (with Pär Grindvik). As a producer, he’s worked on every one of Fever Ray’s acclaimed albums and live shows, as well as projects from alt music heavyweights such as Smerz, Blonde Redhead and Glasser. His Peder Mannerfelt Produktions label has become another outlet for his singular approach, presenting his work alongside similarly experimental operators like Sissel Wincent, Machine Woman, Klara Lewis and Hodge.

More recently, his PM+ series celebrates the immediacy of club-focused tracks, and Mannerfelt thrives on the energy and community of contemporary club music. What makes him different is his response to that energy, as he pushes the music’s possibilities in wild, unpredictable directions.

This year I had the great pleasure of playing an ambient set at my favourite UK festival, Above Below. From the curation, to the sound systems, to the lighting & most importantly to the people, Above Below is a very special party, so I really wanted to make this as special as I could :)

To the best of my knowledge it wasn't recorded so here is an attempt at a re-record. It contains some of my favourite ever ambient & experimental records, and some of my own music & tools I prepared especially for the festival so this feels like a personal one.  I was really happy with the flow & vibe so I hope that transmits!

Heaven is in You began as an intent based project in wide ranging exploration of the world and our own being. Now defunct, ADAB once curated the Cleveland based Heaven is In You parties alongside colleague Eric Sarley (Ghost Noises) for what became locally known as a labor of love in sonic variety. The sentiment finds itself resurrected here for ADAB's monthly transmissions.

Rio Dela Duna - La Divina (Kazamayé Short play)

Deena Abdelwahed has a two way relationship with music: in her early years back home in Tunisia when she programmed nights at Nüba, she was known for introducing the likes of footwork, UK bass and kuduro along side experimental house and techno to the local scene. Meanwhile, her own music on labels like InFine has introduced European audiences to bass and techno with plenty of fascinating Arab influences.  This was best showcased on her Khonnar album late last year, which came with plenty of inventive rhythms, weird sound designs and generally challenging musical ideas. 

Abdelwahed’s mix for us comes ahead of her performance at Dekmantel Festival in August and showcases her ability to twist basslines and layer in spiritual ambiance to absorbing effect. It manages to be punchy and physical yet thoughtful throughout, and also comes with plenty of the Arab influences - vocals, instrumentation, rhythms -  that make her work so standout.

@myles-mac is perhaps best known as co-founder and curator of trusted electronic music platform and mix series @melbourne-deepcast, but his list of credentials stretches much longer than that. A fixture of Melbourne’s underground for the past decade, Myles has cemented his reputation as a respected DJ and curator through both Melbourne Deepcast and his famed Lost Weekend club nights. His eclectic and diverse selections - both as an individual DJ and as one half of the 90s house duo Project 95 (@proj95) - have meanwhile earned him space on lineups across Australia and overseas. 

While Myles, like many of us, has found a sense of calm in downtempo and ambient music the last few months, in his Patterns of Perception 75 he switches gears. Here, Myles seamlessly fuses some of his favourite fast, spacey techno and energised broken rhythms with moments of pure, atmospheric euphoria. The resulting hour and a half feels like a triumphant return to the club: offering both a brief escape from our current moment and a much needed reminder of the energy that can only be created by a dance floor in full flow.
