miscmeg's sensitive take on electronic music just hits. the. spot. Having made a name for herself as a versatile selector, as suited to a club setting and those moments of total energetic release, as periods of reflection and stillness. It's the latter she has compiled in this mix, originally recorded at Hope St Radio in Naarm.

One of the founders of https://soundcloud.com/vortexvortexvortex and its associated skylab show, miscmeg is a major contributor to Naarm's scene, effortlessly adding an essential dimension, rooted in emotional dance music. 

With a 90s flavour, this mix meanders through sugarcoated, glistening downtempo, occasionally plunging into destabilising slow burns. miscmeg's ear for downtempo is on full show here, pausing for darker, dub-inflicted haziness and moments of melancholy before erupting shining light, love and red-hot desire. 

miscmeg, with what seems like a knowing wink, sprinkles breadcrumbs for us to follow, each moment a fragile, expanding, crystallising and, soon, razor sharp declaration of self-worth. She's a pro and we can't thank her enough : --)

This show is a tribute and celebration of beloved American singer/songwriter John Prine who sadly passed away in Tennessee on 7th April 2020 due to complications caused by COVID-19. He will be greatly missed. We love John here at Do Your Thing and have played many of his songs since starting the show back in May 2019. 

As NPR journalist Annie Zaleski said in a recent article. “John Prine was a wry and perceptive writer whose country and folk songs often resembled vivid short stories.” John had this great knack for observing everyday events and interpreting them into songs that many could relate to. Lyrics are filled with familiar details, observations and witty musings.

His songs can make you laugh, make you think and pull the old heartstrings from time to time - occasionally all in the space of one song. 

Bob Dylan once said “Prine's stuff is pure Proustian existentialism. Midwestern mindtrips to the nth degree. And he writes beautiful songs.” Thanks Bob.

Over the next hour, we will take a journey back through John’s extensive catalogue, starting in the early 1970s and working our way through the decades.
