Albuquerque friends Geezy and Tree Gaud combine their passion for classic 140 beats-per-minute dubstep on “Runnit,” delivering a track that’s true to the genre but updated with a modern edge. From the drop the focus is on bassweight, with the first half of the track centred on low end bass rolling over minimal percussion. After the breakdown the instrumentation shifts into a canopy of frenzied bass-heavy synths reminiscent of riddim dubstep. Both artists have been friends since before either of them began producing, and “Runnit” is a testament to their shared admiration for bass music’s history and their desire to innovate.
