The chances we were going to get an exclusive podcast from Ketiov (one of the duo that is Catz 'n Dogz) was slim to none. We have been trying for a couple of years now but between him dropping countless remixes, original productions, starting a music festival in Warsaw, running the Pets Recordings label, and world touring what seems like every weekend, we knew it would be a long shot. Until, today... when he threw us this gorgeous mix... It was entirely worth the wait.

After 10 years of doing a Friday night party at Burning Man, Honey Soundsystem decided to end it all with a bang. Normally a renegade rave happening inside the city at the Comfort & Joy camp, Honey Dusted X took to the inner playa and did a final trip out in the open. Climbing aboard the recklessly packed BAAAHS art car, Jennifer Cardini took to the decks at Midnight (a champagne toast hosted by Tickled Mink happening simultaneous around the dancefloor). A more friendly departure then the razor sharp techno set she played two nights before on the Mayan Warrior, Cardini took gay burner revelers to town with a cool blend of house, disco, and thumpers. The vibes were thick and by the time "Sueno Latino" started fading into the speakers there wasn't a queen nearby that wasn't asking who the hell just took them to church.

This week we continue our 4 week series of Potcasts highlighting Atlanta's Deep South crew by dropping a mix by Ash Lauryn. A name that has been bubblin' up this year with her recent plays in San Francisco and Movement Detroit and mixes for Rinse and Discwoman we are catching her feeling. Flexing a penchant for both deep and harder sounds, the title of this mix gives listeners a musical warning but also gives you a peak into what makes Ash such a compelling figure on the scene. Self-proclaimed "Underground and Black," Ash leads her musical charge with a candid love for the historical roots of dance-music and the power of reclamation in modern day America. From track selection, to honing technique, to gig choices, Ash wants you to feel her as much as dance in-front of her. She wants you to consider your placement, the cause and effect and to tickle your brain as you drop into her beats. It is a common thread she shares with the Deep South collective, a crew forging dance-caves for queers in a city not known for publicly holding space in that respect. Surely every great party gives you a release, but not all releases must be an escape. In the case of Ash, that release can be one focused on freedom of expression and sharing understanding - but also an nod to what the music represents and the hustle to get it onto the wax. Ash might have a decade of being in the scene under her belt, but her eager enjoyment for what she does and the possibilities for musical renewal feels so youthful and about 15 minutes into this mix you will be pumping the air with her as if it was your first night out too.

"When Octo Octa sent us the demos for her first full-length record since 2013, we were floored by how many tracks were single worthy. But, there was one that stood out as something entirely on its own, a song that in many ways sounded like nothing Maya had ever released. Since the beginning, we always knew we wanted to do something special with "Adrift," the 8+ minute space-age synth-dub techno tune. Tomorrow we unveil our 300th HNYPOTCAST and to celebrate we are releasing some goodies from our archive that have never before been on SoundCloud. Our first upload was via Blogger in May of 2008 and was often the vehicle for live recordings from our raucous weekly party that lasted 5.5 years. 

Here is the 2010 live recording of Solar at the now since defunct Paradise Lounge (which used to be the infamous Febe's leather bar). It is one of my favorite potcasts of the series and captures the wild, free, and unabashed energy of our early years. I'm getting the feelings of being drunk off free Corona just from listening to this...

Last May, we invited Leon Vynehall to play a rare 'open to close' set at Honey Soundsystem. There are not many selectors that we can trust to not only DEBUT themselves at a HSS party but also take on a room entirely to themselves. His set exceed our expectations and the recording ACTUALLY came out.

Honey fans know we don't release many live-recordings, but when we do they often have a life of their own (see Jennifer Cardini at Burning Man, Silent Servant at Holy Cow, Black Madonna at Deviants, Doc Sleep at the 9 Year Anniversary)

This set has been on repeat since that May 26th night and after some serious cajoling, Vynehall agreed to release the first couple of hours. Vynehall does not really release live mixes so we know how special this is and thank him for letting us go with it.

The set went on for another 3.5 hours but included some material Vynehall can't have out in the world yet. So... here is an exceptionally good 3.5 hours at one of our traditional Sunday night, holiday weekend, Honey Soundsystem parties in San Francisco.

Central American born Silent Servant has performed worldwide in clubs from LA, Berlin to Osaka. A chance meeting with Karl O'Conner in 1999 would establish a friendship that would open the door to the Sandwell District label in 2006. Silent Servant's sound is a reinterpretation of early '80s post-punk electronics, paired with the deep, metallic sounds of Basic Channel and Downwards.
