Description: Central American born Silent Servant has performed worldwide in clubs from LA, Berlin to Osaka. A chance meeting with Karl O'Conner in 1999 would establish a friendship that would open the door to the Sandwell District label in 2006. Silent Servant's sound is a reinterpretation of early '80s post-punk electronics, paired with the deep, metallic sounds of Basic Channel and Downwards.

Max Tournay aka https://soundcloud.com/kafim is an established name in the Brussels underground community. He started deejaying techno music as a resident of the infamous Deep In House collective, who later founded C12 club where he was also a resident for several years. 

Max and I used to play regularly together around 2014/2015 as a deep techno dj duo and shared a couple of nice moments behind the booth. Yet, our paths went separate ways. Max’s interest floated away from club music, pulled towards a more wave-y, slowmo, rock-oriented spectrum. He has been a long-time host on Lyl radio, presenting a show called Basses Besognes focussing on psychedelic rock, garage, shoegaze & other guitar sounds. He also co-runs the (party) collective Curly Teeth, a platform for slowed-down forms of left-field club music.

Flash forward to a couple of months ago. Kafim played a long afternoon set at Horst Club’s intimate “Garage” room during the Gayhaze & Cocktail D’amore 2-day take over. On the dance floor, I was completely blown away by the uniqueness of Kafim’s music selection and super-skilled mixing. The energy that day was very special and emotional for me and the question of asking Max to share his mix after that day/night spent together was very logical. Here is the result of an artist rediscovering himself constantly but always counting on the technical skills of his early techno days. 

Another fact: Max came up with the name Basic Moves when Ailsa and I started the project 8 years ago. I’m so happy that our paths have crossed again, and I can give a platform to this live recording.

After giving us A Guide To Hellthier Lifestyle, Bjarki continues to provide with a conceptual companion mix to detox from the world’s ills, stitched with ironic infomercials and sarcastic self help tape skits. As Bjarki puts it: “It’s a wellness mix with a narrative that reflects the present moment. A snapshot in time, a map of the sounds and artists I keep returning to. Some of these tracks hold deep personal meaning, reminding me exactly why I’m drawn to music in the first place.”

Featuring a generous variety from the Throbbing Gristle extended industrial family, as well as Swedish composer Egil Kalman, Bjarki’s “relentless pursuit of wellness” runs from jaunty, psychedelically blurred 70s pop and early pioneering synthesiser musicians like Raymond Scott to the tangling guitar picks and acidic pulses of Biogen’s Sigur Rós remix, to Cyclone’s classic, euphoric bleep techno cut ‘A Place Called Bliss’ and the seminal Shackleton production 'Undeadman' reminding us everyone starts from point one. Ingeniously cunning and tongue in cheek as this mix is, there’s plenty of bliss in between Bjarki’s unreleased blistering rhythms.

The resurgent Transparent Sound outfit (now made up of lone UK electro veteran Orson Bramley) has been riding high since their classic "Punk Motherfucker" got picked up for a reissue from Pressure Traxx. 2019 has been a busy year so far for him, with the re-launch of his label Orson which has been very well received and last month saw him release 2 EPs on his Transparent Sound label. 

With plenty more music on the way on both labels, including a Transparent Sound album, it's shaping up to be an exciting year
