Discuji, Fuchsia Casual - Vapour Years (Robotnik3000 Remix) [Deep Clicks]

Arno Gonzalez is producing a modern house sound that sometimes ventures into melodic territory close to Electronica, the Angevin artist was first spotted by the Parisian label Missive, then by Timid Records, on which he released his debut album “Encounters”, as well as a number of EPs and remixes...

Today, he is one of the spearheads and leaders of Brique Rouge, David Duriez's label, with whom he is on a mission to perpetuate and reinvent a certain vision of House and Techno music.

With this second album, which marks “the end of innocence”, Arno explodes the codes of his music to better transcend them. We find his inimitable touch, a particular sound that is sometimes minimal, sometimes warm and melodious, a real signature on 13 tracks that tell a real story.

If this is the end of innocence, it's also the beginning of maturity.




Brique Rouge label is a pillar of the French House underground since 1999.

The label continues to disseminate the electronic sound David Duriez believes in, far from formatting and excessive vulgarity. An eclectic electronic sound that remains rooted in the underground and on vibe above all.  In general, the team's artists benefit from a carte blanche, and it's above all the state of mind that counts. The label isn't looking for success, it's a success. The success of being able to release music without compromise. With one release a week on platforms since 2020, the label (and its divisions RZ Muzik & Obliqu3) is seen as a key player on the French underground electronic scene, given the activism it demonstrates.

Faithful to the spirit of this music's beginnings - Acid House, Chicago and New York House, or the power of Belgian or Detroit Techno - the label has been churning out releases for 25 years without ever sinking into cynicism, nostalgia or parody. Brique Rouge has established itself as a key French label for the distribution of emerging and creative artists (known and unknown) who draw their inspiration from the roots of the genre, but also pursue the search for new vibes. Without commercial imperatives, the label innovates and denies itself nothing. No formatting, no time sacrificed on the altar of the platforms of streaming, with Brique Rouge it's not the face of the human behind the machine that is highlighted, but its music.

Estonian pioneer Raul Saaramets exists in many parallel musical universes and this is reflected in his stellar output as Ajukaja, mining a rich furrow of stand out, oddball yet eminently danceable, groovy house and beat experiments. As the program co-director for Estonia’s national radio station Raadio  2, he’s given his country unprecedented access to some of the hottest music on this planet. He’s also made some of the finest underground dance records over the last few years including ‘Stranger’, ‘Benga Benga’ and “Rare Birds’ (made with long time production partner Andrevski) which were hammered by the scenes elite. His Bergerac debut has been a long time coming but well worth the wait. 

Mhmhmh is a super vibey late night burner which quite obviously gets its title from the faintly Germanic, sleazy vocal sample which goes ‘um hum um hum’. 

Sklad trips you out even more with a mangled, ecstasy tinged fading in(tro) which gives you ‘that’ feeling

Ajukaja puts his disco hat on for side 2 with Ekleeer. A super danceable disco cut rolls out until the vocals drop in and you realise that David Lynch is on the remix. 

Walk previously saw light as a tape only track but it’s playful scuffed up jiggery pokery cried out for a vinyl release so here it is..

Beneath the glimmering lights of the city he ran amidst tall buildings as his feet tread heavily upon the pavements and concrete. He had developed a high sweat under the glow and gleam of the moonlight, this was supposed to be exercise but it felt more like a chore. He ran past groups of friends who'd had one too many, he ran past lonely souls who'd lost themselves to the desk job long ago and he wandered past the posers who knew little for their deeper purpose on this earth. This was a brief insight to the city which engulfed his world around him, he cared little for whether it might still be there when he woke tomorrow.

It is rare that simplicity and recognizability happen in dance music, but ‘Take 8’ is just that. A song so heartfelt and recognizable it demanded its own slab of wax. This expertly mixed and crafted house cut romances listeners into a catchy live piano ditty that could go on for days.

The label decided the piano ​should​ go on and set up NYC classical Pianist and friend of Honey Soundsystem crew Kevin Devine on a blind date with the producers for the A2. Kevin whipped up a compositional response to the original and it was recorded live on a Grand in LA-4A’s studio. Finally, to make it a family affair, Taraval, known for his work of Four Tet’s TEXT, teams up with label co-founder Jackie House for a kraut-no take on the original, fusing vacillating resonant bleeps and robust drums with glimpses of the original’s ethereal sounds.

Longlost - Take 8

“When nothing else remained on this earth to mine, when there were no more fish or mollusks or plants, and little clean, nor temperate, air left to breathe … a mass migration of consciousness looked to cyberspace; neurological data uploaded for a chance of a new virtual existence within only screens. But the digital world, much like the world it was born from, is built upon the same biases which destroyed it in the first place. A world within a world is equally finite - and the utopian ideals of an ungoverned second life found old principles (or lack thereof), merely copied and pasted over from its irl predecessor. With the bandwidth exceeded; they banned those which offered less power, less good behaviour, less money. But upkeep the server of the elite, and you shall gain entry.”

The latest sonic output of artist-producer-dj-polymath Moonbow comes served in the form of a 12” vinyl on West Friends: the imprint spearheaded by South London’s Rye Wax & FYI Chris. After three years of quietly producing, Moonbow’s name is most familiar within the London nightlife scene, where — alongside their work within SIREN collective — they are known for their colourful DJ sets & mixtapes, leading to a mention in Crack Magazine’s “Top 10 Mixes of 2018”, guest mixing on Rinse FM and contributing to Honey Soundsystem’s mix series. These sonic tapestries are an exercise in storytelling that is at once euphoric and melancholic, whilst delving into both the old and new. Often known to make an appearance are chopped 'n' spliced vocals, silky psychedelic melodies, and bass vibrations so heavy that no nearby drinks are safe from spillage.

These characteristics can certainly be found on BNND WDTH, where the A-side is a tense build up of transcendental textures and rhythms that moves ever closer towards the dance floor compared to Moonbow’s earlier releases. On the side B, Discwoman affiliate and Toronto’s favourite one-to-watch Ciel takes the helm on a psychedelic breaks rework (one you may have seen many an “ID?” for in THAT Crack Magazine mix from SIREN DJs).

Nick Woolfson and Filippo Rocco's Metropolitan Soul Museum outfit make a welcome appearance on Ben Gomori's solid Monologues stable with three dreamy, house cuts. Lush synths, woozy pads and spacey atmospheres are the order of the day here, teasing brighter days and warmer nights to arrive just that little bit sooner.
