In the lead up to the release of my DJ Kicks on 16th June I'm giving away (one a week throughout May) the four tracks I've produced over the years that I'm most proud of - 'Mbira', 'Pause', 'Sequential Circus' & 3000AD. Last week was 'Pause', next up is 'Sequential Circus'. As the name suggests this record was made using the Sequential Circuits 6 trak synth. When I made and released this record it was in the middle of a 'minimal house' explosion and this track was a reaction to all the soulless bleepy shit that was being released at the time....'Sequential Circus' ended up becoming a Secret Sundaze favourite, with Giles Smith licensing it for his Secret Sundaze mix CD. On the flipside of LUV013, brazilian producer and one half of “The Rimshooters” ROTCIV lays down two complex yet dancefloor oriented house tracks. “Old Good Luvin’” is a soulful house hymn that pays tribute to synth driven early italo and classic chicago house. ROTCIV intertwines the different styles to create his very own blend of deep house.

“Just Take Me Higher” evokes similar feelings but has a slightly darker touch to it. Eerie John Carpenter-esque pads contrast the punchy bassline, eprom drumbeat and organ stabs to create a mood coming straight from an 80s elektro joint.

“Deep Down”, the digital bonus track, shows ROTCIV going all the way to 90s Jersey house. Synth stabs and a shuffle beat are the key elements to this track.

St. Petersburg resident Kito Jempere is back on Dirt Crew with his first full release after his debut album on “Fata Morgana” and a great EP on “Freerange” last year. Following his great contribution to our “Deep Love” series we now welcome him with these two unique tracks. Ranging from House to Disco and Jazz influences, Kito found his very own style and switches easily between them. Up tempo and energetic tracks with great melodies, driving bass lines and clever sample use.

To complete this fine package we asked one of our all time fave producers and almost neighbour of Kito, Roberto Rodriguez from Helsinki, He turned “Do You Know Me” into a deep and bass heavy beast, much more stripped than the original tune he managed to make a true dance floor Gem of a remix. The second Man on remix duty is our Boy Nachtbraker from Amsterdam, also a Dirt Crew fave and meanwhile a household name for great melodic house jams. He added a brilliant bass line and cut the original “A Thousand Times” up to turn it in a true Nachtbraker tune.

A very cosmopolitan affair this is and musically one great record we are very proud of to release!

The tracks operate as studies in unresolved repetition: the groove never explodes — it tightens, trapping the listener in a loop.
Every element undergoes a selection process before being allowed to exist; nothing is ornamental.
The structure is skeletal: dry percussion, micro-variations, and negative space charged with tension.
This is sound built at the threshold between the organic and the mechanical, where precision holds more weight than excess. The driving force of the music isn’t progression, but suspension — the constant possibility of something about to happen that never does.

We’re convinced Strangelove’s on a mission to bring people together. With this second EP on Smile for example, he seems to have put Kenny Dixon and possibly Otis Redding together on “Truly Lonely”, while “Oh Yeah” sounds like he had Kevin Saunderson and Sly Stone perhaps to show the light to Jake and Elwood Blues in some Tenessee church. It sounds like he got the likes Steve Miller and Barry White to jam out under a palmtree under the watchful guidance of Dimitri From Paris on “Backseat Rain”. What makes this stuff so great is that all this makes perfect sense. Even more so it’s Strangelove’s ability to skillfully build these tracks up to unsuspectedly grab you by the cojones at just the right moment until enchantment is the only appropriate term left.

Three tracks to be reckoned with. Each different, but all truly soulful and effective to the max.

Strangelove 〰 Truly Lonely

Stepping up for remix duties on the EP closer is 100% Silk and Honey Soundsystem affiliate Octo Octa, bringing her signature, lush house stylings to the title track, ‘Porcelain’.

It’s an epic remix, rolling past the 10-minute mark with confident ease, with a slice of dreamy nostalgia thrown in for good measure alongside a gurgling bassline and slow-building weight.

Downtown Party Network might once have been a short yet magical period of New York City nightlife. Today the name stands for music from another side of the world - Lithuania. An entity combined of experiences, influences, events, trips, and adventures in music that have come together during the last 20 years.

Downtown Party Network’s music has been signed by german Get Physical Music and Dirt Crew Recordings, british Futureboogie and Anjunadeep, belgian Eskimo Recordings and australian Future Classic to name a few. The releases have been favorited by DJ Harvey, Dixon, Laurent Garnier, Groove Armada, Tensnake, Ame, Jamie Jones, Sasha.

‘Days Like These’ by Downtown Party Network released on legendary Eskimo Recordings back in 2009 became a dancefloor destroyer, hitting record shops’ charts and being played by countless amount of djs all around the world.

‘Space Me Out’, released in October 2013 by Silence Music, became one of the most charted tracks on Resident Advisor in 2013. Mario Basanov, Hannes Fischer and Musk accompanied the original track with brilliant remixes. Each of them received a significant amount of attention, as well as a melodramatic music video that was filmed in spooky Lithuanian nature. A year later, a new version of ‘Space Me Out’ was revamped and presented exclusively on ‘Deep House Amsterdam’ just before Amsterdam Dance Event and a brand new remix of the worldwide hit, crafted by the legendary producer Ewan Pearson. 

In the last years DPN had his shows in New York, San Fransisco, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Sydney, Shanghai, Singapore, Dubai, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Bangkok, Seoul, Mexico City, Jakarta, London, Berlin, Bali,  Bucharest, Ho Chi Minh, etc.
