Volume 2 also features live recordings of Mussorgsky’s Polovtsian Dances, John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine, “Nimrod” from Elgar’s Enigma Variations and the final movement of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5.

In his largest work to date, Schmidt draws from his own experiences with depression, exploring the struggle between two opposing forces: light and darkness, or good and evil.  Powerful melodies, idiomatic use of instruments, and adept orchestration merge, yielding potent emotional moments over the course of the piece.
