In this episode of The Open Door, panelists Jim Hanink, Mario Ramos-Reyes, and Valerie Niemeyer discuss how to best respond to people who are devalued due to intellectual or physical impairment, mental disorders, age, and poverty. Our welcome guest is Jo Massarelli. She leads Social Role Valorization workshops both in the United States and internationally. She has also evaluated dozens of human service programs for schools, hospices, prisons, and homeless shelters. Massarelli and her husband Marc Tumeinski are members of a voluntary community responding the needs of the homeless in Worcester, Massachusetts.

- Valerie Niemeyer was blessed to meet Jo and  her husband, Marc Tumeinski, in Omaha after the interview with Marc on The Open Door. Henry, Valerie's 18 year old, joined her and met a few of Jo's colleagues. Could you tell us about that weekend event? Why did it happen in my home city of Omaha?

Here she highlights how God created woman to draw men towards Himself. She explains how satan and sin inverted this gift causing women to often tempt men away from God -but also how Jesus redeemed this gift through the Cross. She explains how Our Lady's Immaculate Heart fully radiates the purity intended by God for all women -how this is tied to Her humility -and ultimately how Divine Love itself is the power behind Her fullness of Grace. Equals a past and similar story. 2) – Person had a premonition (like prior year too); that they would see a friend in shopping and they did see them! 3) – Medical testing, but saw a 888 plate in the parking lot! 4) – Someone compliments a lady shopper who is praying for a date and so shared CrossRoadsCt,  5) – Had needs for seeing doctors before 3 day hospital stay … so popped into offices (and miraculously got needs cared for)! 6) – Running errands but inspired to turn car around (and saw 777 clue) … then also got 50% off on meds at CVS today!

1) – Woman having disasters for 4-days, crying now, told to listen to Britt Fisk, with great results! 2) – St. Faustina #1605 + another nun in a convent agree (God does indeed talk to all of us every day)! 3) – Man waves a car on at intersection after daily prayer session (and sees the hidden car with 777)! 4) – Housekeeper and Maintenance person sad that card was not signed (but it indeed miraculously was)!

1) – A person saw Blue Parrots on the screen saver (to confirm that God did indeed in-spire their project).2) – Woman was allergic to something new again and pleaded (and prayed) for quick resolution. Doctor found that some of her vitamins were creating Enzymes (and he prescribed an OTC pill to thwart enzymes.3) – I posted my legacy and I was led to see proof of God’s will by the TV screen + (Dr. Charles Stanley).4) – Catechism article 1374, confirms that God chose one particular and specific food for ALL PEOPLE,  to us in order to commemorate (from thousands of possibilities) that He is indeed present in all things!5) – One person saw the fact that they awoke 5 minutes before the alarm clock (that God was approving their decision to attend a meeting on His behalf).

1) – Grandfather sends texts to grand kids 3 or 4 times a year. This time; one kid sent him a text just as he was about to push SEND on one of his texts. 2) – Woman prays for tornado victims as she hears about tornados on the news … and just as she said the prayer (she saw a car pass by with a plate number (777). 3) – Still born baby would have been a student at Sandy Hook Elementary (mom feels blessed that she did not have to endure the Sandy Hook nightmare), 4) – Movie “Hey God, are you there; it’s me; Margaret.” About how God does all the work in making us all His friends (if we ask Him to help us)! 5) – Man inspired to go to lot number 4 to park his car; and the spot that was opened for him had a car, with a plate 444, parked right there in the space in front of him. 6) – Married couple is always arguing about “The-Right-Religion.” We solved it by suggesting they use Lectio Divina and then simply speak together of what Bible passages mean to each person. It worked well!

1) – I was in-spired to post on Facebook and Liked-in (that only one thing is needed … (Luke 10:38-42). And Pastor Joseph Prince said the same thing later that night on TV! 2) – I was SPECIFICALLY in-spired to mention my AGE, and LEGACY as I was evangelizing … and two groups were stunned and told me that: “They were just saying the same thing (just seconds before I approached them)!” 3) – I spoke to several groups consisting of (5 or 8 friends per group) at the Connecticut Park and they were all recent college grads. They were excited to hear about using the words i-dea and in-spirations (to tap into their own ability and talent of “mental telepathy with God!”  They really got excited and asked many questions too.

Fr. John Horn, S.J. and Deacon Thomas Pulickal join Dr. Mary Anne Urlakis on Episode 12 of “Vows, Vocations, & Promises: Discerning the Call of Love,” to discuss the new book, Spiritual Husbands- Spiritual Fathers: Priestly Formation for the 21st Century, co- edited by Bishop Felipe Estevez and Bishop Andrew Cozzens. The goal of this comprehensive book is to provide a spiritual and psychological resource that engenders affective maturity and fruitful chaste celibacy for a renewal of priestly formation, an aim which echoes the objectives expressed by the Church in the 2016 Ratio Fundementalis and the 6th edition of the Program for Priestly Formation.

 

Fr. John Horn, S.J., is a priest of the Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus who was ordained in 1985. Fr. Horn’s 25-year+ experience in priestly formation encompasses many roles including: Co-Founder of The Institute for Priestly Formation at Creighton University, Co-Founder of the Seminary Formation Council, former President and Rector of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary, as well as his current role as a spiritual director and Professor in Spiritual Theology at St. Vincent de Paul Seminary. Two of Fr. Horn’s contributing works are included in the text. Deacon Thomas Pulickal just completed his seminary studies and Master of Divinity at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary, in Florida and will be ordained to the ministerial priesthood on June 6th for the Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago. Deacon Thomas also holds a Master of Arts Degree in Philosophy from Holy Apostles College and Seminary. Fr. John Horn, S.J. and Deacon Thomas worked as managing editors for the text Spiritual Husbands-Spiritual Fathers: Priestly Formation for the 21st Century.

 

The text has been hailed by bishops and formators as an essential guide which provides concrete tools that assist formation by taking into account the spiritual and humans needs of the candidates, while helping them determine whether those same candidates are capable of the self-gift required by priestly celibacy.
