The Sustain Series project continues with its second volume, 24 recycled forms created from old and unused material. Since the release of Volume 1 in November last year, more artists have come together to salvage, repurpose, restore and deconstruct each other’s pieces, or collaborate on a particular idea. What results is a growing variety of approaches and outputs, from minor embellishments to full disfigurement.

Volume 2 moves thematically, as if in four chapters, from the expressive openers, through enchanting natural-sounding pieces, before opening up to more ethereal expanses, and finally darker and more thoughtful ones. As it does, visions emerge of our natural world - its power, its beauty and its vulnerability.

“A manifestation is an object that clearly shows or embodies something abstract or theoretical” 

These are five untamed field recordings captured between the desolate streets of suburban Treviso in late June 2018. 
Five explorations of the secret language whispered by its houses and by the slow and mysterious movements of its inhabitants exhausted by the summer heat. 

Matter owns a hidden language, a dusty and ancient one. 
Sound is matter. 

Matter is a tactile manifestation of something that is higher, or at least something that lives hidden among the cracks of our everyday life. 

Something vast, which is capable of moving matter and space. 
Something speaking in codes. 

The movements captured in this work are sometimes brusque, sometimes more tired and dragged. 

These are five declarations of love towards a more real world of truth, a world that is hidden but that somehow manifests itself continuously through the familiar sound of objects and everyday life. 

All five recordings are first single takes, recorded on worn out tape rolls found here and there. 

All recordings captured with a rusty Phillips portable tape recorder and a contact mic.

What began as a joke between two friends, ended with Markus Guentner creating a new track entirely from just one instrument all for a good cause. 

A normal gift wasn't on the cards for David Westlake's Birthday and instead, he challenged Markus' aversion of the Saxophone to see if he could make a track using this instrument as the only source. The result is, Overtone (David's Song), made of nothing but 100% Saxophone. Whether you can recognize it or not, stylistically it's up there with Markus' best music to date and proof that a limited palette can sometimes bring out the most creative output. The track is only available here on Bandcamp (for Bandcamp Day) to help raise funds and support for Choose Love helprefugees.org - a charity nominated by David Westlake.
