Driving in the Desert is an upbeat country rock song that also has a middle eastern vibe to it. It features different instruments such as slide guitars, electric pianos, jazz horns, grungy organs, pounding rock and roll drums and a middle eastern string instrument for the exciting main riff. This has a very lively blues influenced sound.

This western blues track has a driven energetic funky action groove that can work as background music for many different pictures – biker gangs riding to the final showdown at sunset, comedic crisis situations, car chase scenes, light movie action music, bank robberies, bar fights or a montage scene where a character is preparing something like Walter and Jesse in Breaking Bad. This track has a garage surf rock sound that kind of sounds like The White Stripes.

Devastation and Disaster all around. Cars, houses and buildings abandoned and on fire. The last survivors scavenging for food and shelter constantly under attack from zombies -- The Walking Dead!

This is a dark and suspenseful cinematic industrial track with a Zombie Apocalypse as the main theme. The main melody has a feeling of dread and hopeless life. Thundering war drums and orchestral strings mixed with futuristic FX sounds give this a very unique end of the world feel. This could be used as scary background music for a Zombie themed project, cinematic action music, video game trailers, scenes of preparation for war and intense battle sequences.

‘Trapped’ is a sunshine-fuelled, epic rendition of the 1985 street-smart R&B hit by Colonel Abrams. A rolling bassline and melodic pads set the tone underneath the powerful and infectious vocal by Colonel Abrams. Definite feel good anthem! The Subs invited the legendary American singer to Belgium to re-record his vocals. Colonel Abrams’s visit to Belgium was an adventure. Before the legend wanted to sing any note, he needed a haircut and a stylist. Eventually it took 3 days and a shipment of Baileys to lay down the vocals. And he left The Subs with some good stories. One evening during dinner, Colonel Abrams tried to convince them of the fact that he made the first house record: ‘Release the Tension’, a track from 1984 that he recorded with Boyd Jarvis. We don’t know if that's actually true, but it’s a damn good track. And a bold statement!
Remixes come from Belgian supertalent Compuphonic, who turns the track into a heartfelt house anthem. Instant classic. To say it in his own words: “One of my favourite works in a while, I'm happy with the result! I was truly inspired”
And secondly, London underground talent Ashworth (half of the late Joe & Will Ask?). With his gritty but groovy style, Ashworth got trapped into deep down techno but set free by the most wonderful breakdown … If you liked his recently released cut with Citizen you’ll surely love this…

A mix based on the British Museum
 
Featuring a mix of 12th century Tibetan monks song, one of the first ever recordings of music, made by Thomas Edison on a wax cylinder in 1888, poetic spoken word, 9th century Gregorian Chant, A call to the lama from afar, some unreleased exclusives, 9/8 techno, traditional Chinese music mixed with rude glitch, and a binaural museum.

The brief for this mix was to make something inspired by an architectural space. When I was doing my Post-Doc at UCL I used to go the British Museum to relax, and work in the beautiful library there, so I chose the space for the mix. I wanted to capture the ambient atmosphere in the central courtyard, so I did some binaural recording to include in the mix. I also wanted to make the mix something of an exploration through history and ideas in line with the contents of the museum, so I brought in lots of disparate music spanning the centuries and continents. I also mixed it in a way to be like a journey though the museum, turning corners and regularly coming across something totally different and unexpected, with each track being like a different exhibit. Hence the name of the mix, in that, each piece of music almost has a visual content.
