Background

Dr Sid’s energy on stage is that of a billion watts. Bouncing up and down international stages, wiggling his waistline to a sea of screaming girls is quite the norm for this Lagos -born entertainer.  
Full name, Sidney Onoriode Esiri, (stage name DR Sid) was born May 1, 1980 in Ikeja, Lagos state, Nigeria. He is a Nigerian singer-songwriter and Dentist, originally from Delta state, but raised in Lagos. 

Sid, who traded in his dentistal surgeon qualification for the music business, hence the ‘DR’ part of his name, comes from a family of creatives. His mother a successful fashion designer and his father, the legendary actor Justus Esiri who is an Officer of the Order of the Niger  (OON), and famous for his role as the Village Headmaster a Nigerian sitcom popular in the 1980s. 

The second child of 4 children, Sid, from an early age had his heart set on becoming an entertainer. However his life took a different course after graduating from the Nigerian Air force Secondary school ikeja, and went on to the University of Ibadan (UI) to study Dental Surgery. It was here, during his school years, his flair for entertainment could not be hidden. Taking part in school plays, dance competitions and concerts were his passion, winning numerous awards along the way.

Career

His career in music started in 2003 with Nigeria’s first music crew Da Trybe, which included likes of Eldee, Sasha and 2shotz. He was later picked up and signed to prolific music producer Don Jazzy’s Mohits Records label, which is now known as Mavin Records. The new revamped label launched in 2012 and is also home to Wande Coal, Tiwa Savage and D’prince.  

Dr Sid has released numerous chart toppers such as ‘Something About You’, ‘Over The Moon’, ‘Bamijo’ and ‘Pop Something’ and charted as number four on the billboards for the next big sounds- top 25.  

Dr Sid’s appeal spans not just in Nigeria but also across Africa and the globe. He has performed on some of the world’s biggest stages, like his turn at London’s o2 arena and HMV Apollo, Irvin Plaza in New York, 2010’s Big Brother Africa (South Africa), 2009’s MTV Africa Awards in Kenya, or the Thisday Music Festival and Star Jam appearances in 2008, to mention a few. He has a debut studio album ‘Turning Point’, which sold more than 100,000 albums in Nigeria alone, including the massive #1 smash hit, ‘Over The Moon’, featuring K-Switch.

Dr Sid has been nominated for numerous awards and picked up 2 awards at the 2011 Hip Hop World awards for the categories: “Best Pop single and Revelation of the Year”.
