While traversing a realm of appearances many truths are heard and not seen. An audio representation of a moment in time captured and preserved - a sonic photograph. This recording is one such artifact, one that for me illustrates a fine line bordering cosmos and chaos. Something that can not be duplicated during a controlled studio session which is absent of collective effervescence. So far from a quiet game of solitaire, but more a test of faith where reckless abandon embraces instantaneous risk. The evening was a spiritual conversation that embraced us all through the magical forces of music set beneath a canopy of trees, sprouting from the grounds of an enchanted forest. Evidence of the artist’s hand and thought process is unforgivingly present while creating a range of possibilities for spontaneous storytelling surrounded by an atmosphere of ecstatic energy. This memory will live with me forever.

It was my first Draaimolen and no one knew it which was great. 
It was also my first encounter with Addit Audio and their sound system installed for the first time in its full glory. I can't recall being brought to tears during one soundcheck.
So there were no news, no algorithms, no expectations to be disappointed. The pit was not announced. It felt like a curious manifestation of something paranormal.
Wonderful sound system, records and sweetest weather.  
Those who found us in the small pit in the middle of the forest most likely didn't know what was going on. 
For the most part of the first 5 hours I figured out that it would be great to play for and with the sound guy, playing right and wrong records and figuring out which one sound good. Research and development mission for Addit Audio.
After 5 hours ISAbella joined for a brief back to back session. Everything can happen in the realm of paranormal. Luckily she stayed and we played together for the next 3 hours until the last song, the one for the deceased. Probably as close as it gets to transcendence.

With this selection, I wanted to hold onto a specific feeling - I searched for comfort, tinted by a soft kind of melancholy. I wanted to create a hermetic bubble of tenderness, tracing the intimacy of touch - its pause outside of time, and its subsequent release.

In a book about the Japanese tea ceremony, the author explains:

‘Great attention should be given to a tea gathering, which we can speak of as "one time, one meeting" (ichi-go, ichi-e). Even though the host and guests may see each other often socially, one day's gathering can never be repeated exactly. Viewed this way, the meeting is indeed a once-in-a-lifetime occasion.’

It is very similar with DJing. Each time it is different and distinctive. I was so happy to have this ‘once-in-a-lifetime occasion’ on Saturday at the Moon stage of Draaimolen Festival 2025. It was a wonderful opportunity to share a lot of music full of meaning and memories. My sincere thanks to all those who joined and made this gathering possible. I hope you enjoy listening to what happened.

I love spending time in the forest, that's a very recharging time for me, and I find forest raves are something really special. So I was honoured to be invited as part of Eris and Maya's curation to open the festival on the Forest Rave stage. 
I loved trying to slowly build up the vibe for the day and prepare for Octo Octa and Faited's amazing dnb b2b just after my set. Thanks to the all team at Draaimolen for the warm welcome, Eris and Maya for the invite, my friends and all dancers and the ones who even stayed during the rain :)

This live set, entitled MEMORIES, was created for and performed at Draaimolen, compiled with original synthesis and samples, field recordings, instruments and vocals.
MEMORIES is a journey dedicated to love and loss - a reflection on time, an ode to the process of becoming, and a gentle reminder that this too, shall pass.

This moment was surreal. From the booth, I could only see a few dancers and the Forest Rave glistening trees. The energy was vivid, the dance floor was moving and expressive. It is an amazing feeling to experience such communion. I wanted to tell an open ended story with my records, trigger emotions and imagination. I wanted dancers to completely let go. These sounds are inspired by transformative dances I had at outdoor raves organised by Amsterdam-based collective RPU over the years. Senses of introspection, release and escape. A sense of freedom. I touched my dream that night, one shared with so many of you present. I hope that these feelings translate through this recording.

I dedicate this set to my beloved brother Eric. We will always remember you.

For this set, which was my European debut, I brought my most cherished records to play over the the monolithic speaker stacks of the Forest Rave Stage. The ethos of the set was an invitation to begin the next day of dancing. Starting with house records infused with messages of music’s power to lift our spirits and ending with faster-paced rolling techno to really shake out any of yesterday’s body aches, I wanted to warm the forest floor and welcome the open-minded dancers to a new day. 

It was a great honor to set the stage for the many incredible artists that followed on Saturday. My immense gratitude goes to Eris & Maya for trusting me to open the stage, to Fait for making the speaker stacks sing, and to the entire Draaimolen team for being such a dedicated and lovely crew."
