We continue our podcast conversations with Kikelomo & A Song For You, who bring their collaborative debut to our forest on Friday 6th September!  

Electronic and choral music will mix as 8 vocalists line up around the booth to put on a show that will unite us across the dance floor. You'll be carrying this experience with you for the rest of the weekend.  

We talk to Kike, Noah and Danesh about the origins of singing and how it's as ingrained in humanity as music and rhythm. We also speak about how A Song For You came to be, how Kike got involved and what to expect during their performance at Draaimolen.

We’re very happy to share a new podcast episode, this time with Mama Snake and Martinou who open up about their upcoming and debut b2b set at our Aura next week. 

Though you might notice some contrast in their musical output, their connection to the hypnotic Nordic sound unites them, with both seeking those spine-tingling moments in music. The team first joined us in 2022, gracing our forest with two innovative installations that blended perfectly with the backdrop of our MOB complex. This year they're back with a brand new design, as 360 individually controllable analogue lights will envelop the largest dance floor in our forest.

Our conversation explores the foundations of the studio as Satyajid shares insights into their creative processes. We discuss the experience of immersing yourself in a work of art, rather than observing it from a distance, and how to evoke deep emotion by creating a powerful context.

In late 2023 I was chatting with a musician friend about labels, and whether they're really all that necessary these days. As someone mainly focused on self-releasing my music through Bandcamp, I think for the most part the answer is no. One should focus on passionately creating things and being involved in their local music community. Over time, label or not, things will hopefully start to take care of themselves on their own. I did however mention that there was one label I thought was really cool, and would definitely be interested in working with: it was Nous'klaer Audio. Incredibly, the next day I received an email from Sjoerd Oberman, who runs Nous'klaer, inviting me to join for a release and performance at Draaimolen. Of course, I was delighted to be involved. This would be my first show in the EU. I spent about 3 months preparing a new set. Having grown rather bored of CDJs and DJ mixers, I opted to prepare a live set, in which I control 8 channels of audio tracks along with drum machines and FX. This setup gives me a lot of freedom to explore new arrangements of my catalog, and better command the dynamic energy on the dance floor, pushing and pulling things forwards to capture the mood of the crowd. To prepare for Draaimolen, I organized several shows across Japan (where I live), further refining the setup after each performance, and deciding what tracks would be the best fit for the 60 minute peak time set I was scheduled to perform. I was very nervous about how my set would be received, but it ended up working very well, and was the highlight of my year. From the very start, the positive reaction from the crowd put me at ease, and Draaimolen's focus on sound and stage design gave me peace of mind, knowing that every frequency was being perfectly reproduced on the floor. I'm so grateful for the opportunity Nous'klaer and Draaimolen provided me. Long live Nous'klaer and long live Draaimolen. Thank you Sjoerd and Milo and Kani and Hannah!

The tunnel is a magical stage and im very grateful to have been asked to play the Saturday late afternoon set, before one of my biggest electronic-music inspirations, voices from the lake. I took the opportunity, considering the impeccable programming, open minded crowd, and perfect soundsystem to play a more slow building, delicate festival set - which felt very true to my real taste, and an homage to many of my deepest and longest standing inspirations. While traversing a realm of appearances many truths are heard and not seen. An audio representation of a moment in time captured and preserved - a sonic photograph. This recording is one such artifact, one that for me illustrates a fine line bordering cosmos and chaos. Something that can not be duplicated during a controlled studio session which is absent of collective effervescence. So far from a quiet game of solitaire, but more a test of faith where reckless abandon embraces instantaneous risk. The evening was a spiritual conversation that embraced us all through the magical forces of music set beneath a canopy of trees, sprouting from the grounds of an enchanted forest. Evidence of the artist’s hand and thought process is unforgivingly present while creating a range of possibilities for spontaneous storytelling surrounded by an atmosphere of ecstatic energy. This memory will live with me forever.

It was my first Draaimolen and no one knew it which was great. 
It was also my first encounter with Addit Audio and their sound system installed for the first time in its full glory. I can't recall being brought to tears during one soundcheck.
So there were no news, no algorithms, no expectations to be disappointed. The pit was not announced. It felt like a curious manifestation of something paranormal.
Wonderful sound system, records and sweetest weather.  
Those who found us in the small pit in the middle of the forest most likely didn't know what was going on. 
For the most part of the first 5 hours I figured out that it would be great to play for and with the sound guy, playing right and wrong records and figuring out which one sound good. Research and development mission for Addit Audio.
After 5 hours ISAbella joined for a brief back to back session. Everything can happen in the realm of paranormal. Luckily she stayed and we played together for the next 3 hours until the last song, the one for the deceased. Probably as close as it gets to transcendence.
