It was 2010  
Two years after the first heart attack
I’m a block from my house when Cyndy Garvey
(Steve’s first wife & minor-celeb, herself - late 70s, early 80s)
We were at a 4-Way stop at Crescent Heights & Pickford
A block from my house… I was the first to enter the intersection
And Cyndy (Cynthia) drove her car... from a stop… 
Right into mine on the passenger side  
Cynthia was surprisingly vile & unkind 
as we exchanged info,
which fortunately was not hard for others/cops to see also 
----
When I got home I tried to decompress from the weirdness
That a dark-barbie type celebrity from the past
Had literally driven into my car... out of anger/rage
It seemed like a Garp type moment
And I knew I needed to create something  
So I did this… but when you’re 60 
it gets easier to forget what you did yesterday…

This track remains an incredibly fun re-discovery
It had been mislabled in my itunes library for 15 years
But fortunately now at 75 - I'm retired enough to have the time 
to stumble over 'mislabled moments' like this
And occasionally get lucky & go, wow
At times this track reminds me of a mid-70's 'Wings' cut

I wrote this song about a girl I know.
She overcame so much, yo here we go.

Growing up  in the 70s and 80s.
Had a tough time growin up in Spokane.
An absent father and an alcoholic mother.
Yea, she knew what it was to persevere.

She was married at age 17.
Two kids later, divorced at 19.
Had her third kid at age 21.
In another relationship with a struggling one.

This went on for 8 years.
Till she saw some fears,
He just couldn’t lay off the beers.

Now a single mom with 3 kids.
What an amazing job she did.

With street smarts and little education.
She started college, 30 years of dedication.
She still had to work and provide for the kids.
College start and stop, had to take care of her biz.

Inspired by my kids.
Growing for my family.
Earning and learning.
To provide for their needs.

Wanting to be a transitional fam.

With positive attitude, gutsy, and scrappy.
She pulls off those amazing things.

All while working her tail off. Yea.

Paul Simon's kid brother, Eddie... 
A dead ringer for Paul 
Heard me play 'Alison' at a 'Hoot Nite' (Open Mic) 
At Gerde's Folk City  
And outside the club, after the show, offered me $100 
To buy the song outright 
Both guys who'd accompanied me, Doug & his pal, Don  
Were shaking their heads, 'No' 
Eddie 'presented' as a hustler... 
And I didn't take him seriously 
On the train back to New Rochelle  
I asked Don & Doug if they'd noticed Janis Ian waiting to chat... 
Don had - Don had graduated New Rochelle High School 
A few years earlier & was playing Hudson River Folk Concerts 
With #peteseeger & although not yet a 'somebody' 
Don Maclean was on his way & acted 'as if' 
On the train into the city... 
Don & Doug Meyer (A great guitarist who preferred accordion in 1967)
Had talked guitar gear stuff...and ignored me  
But on the way home I was the center of attention  
I'm sure I went on too much about dylan, the beatles & the kinks... 
Eventually Don blurted out that the beatles were overrated   
& had ruined Rock & Roll - He particularly hated the Stones 
Who 'stole everyone else's styles & sold sex' 
& Dylan who'd 'betrayed folk music' 
I'd never encountered quite such a lucid-adjacent 
Takedown of the 60's music scene  
And definitely underestimated the resentment 
felt by folkies back in the 60s  
Were the 1950s really simpler times? 
Or was it because everything was hidden & not talked about?  
I think the only people who really yearn for the past 
Are the ones who weren't there...
