1967 - NYC - Greenwich Village  
Paul Simon's kid brother, Eddie... 
Not-quite a dead ringer for Paul 
Heard me play 'Alison' at a "Hoot Nite" 
'Open-Mic' at Gerde's Folk City in the West Village 
And outside the club, after the show, offered me $100 
To buy the song outright 
Both friends who'd accompanied me, Doug & his pal, Don  
Were shaking their heads, 'No' 
Eddie 'presented' as a Huckster... 
I didn't take him seriously - 
On the train back to New Rochelle that night 
I asked Don & Doug if they'd noticed Janis Ian waiting to chat... 
Don had - Don Had Also Graduated New Rochelle High School 
A few years earlier & was playing Hudson River Folk Concerts 
With #peteseeger 
Although not yet a 'somebody' Don Maclean was on his way
 & Acted 'as if' - 
On the ride into the city... 
Don & Doug had talked guitar gear stuff...and ignored me  
But on the way home I was the center of attention  
I'm sure I went on a bit too much about the beatles & kinks... 
Eventually Don blurted out that the Beatles were overrated   
& Had ruined rock & roll'  
But he particularly hated the Stones who stole eveyone's styles 
& sold sex 
& Dylan who'd 'betrayed' Folk Music - 
I'd never encountered quite such a 'lucid-adjacent' 
Takedown of the 60's British Invasion  
And definitely underestimated the resentment Folkies had back in 1969 
In 1969, most brain-functioning kids were either concerned with their; Vietnam War Draft Lottery Number Status 
Or their Country fighting a phony war with a crazy President  
Yet, Don felt the need harken to a simpler time  
The 1950's?  Were they simpler? 
Or was it because everything was hidden & not talked about?  
I think the only people who yearn for the past 
are the ones who were never there...
