This is, "Hummingbird" - A rare 'Live' performance from 1971 - The lead guitarist, Peter Noah, would grow up to become a Talented & Successful Television Writer/Producer - the bassist, Marvin Goodfriend, grew up to become a fancy pants Economist of note - I never did grow-up but managed with love & lots of help to raise two good boys - At the age of 53, I did turn an annoying habit of 'Dad Puns' into a thrifty little theatrical copywriting printhouse -

Matt Was Forever "Wlth-Screenplay" 
This Was Set In "The Village" In The '60s  
And Required An Early Dylan 'Type' Song
That Sounded Like A Fun Project...
Dylan Had Both 'Formed & Informed Me'
I Wrote This, The Next Day & 
Then Matt Got Acting Work  
And 'Young Bobby' Got Shelved 
And I Was Left With a Cool But Outdated Folk Song 
In The Disco Era
That Would've Gone Unheard 
Had I Not Added It To  'Almost Famous'

CHANGE IT ALL

Written in 1966 - 
Recorded in my childhood bedroom on an Ampex - reel to reel - In 1967 With Marvin Goodfriend – Soon he'd bring along his bud – Peter Noah – guitar/piano singer/songwriter – Hummingbird was born – We knew we sounded good together and had a cool New Rochelle vocal blend – we grew up together – we lived within a half mile of each other – went to same elementary/middle and high school – Marvin who died in 2019  had the coolest voice – even his speaking voice was warm and memorable – I eventually ended-up in LA in 1970 – Staying at first with Peter’s parents who'd moved from New Rochelle 6-months before I did – So, during the summers of ‘71 ‘2 & ‘3  Peter & Marvin came to LA where we recorded what ended-up on "Sweethearts, Deluxe" – The music industry was 'sketchy' and Marvin who was on the conservative side was appalled by my manager – he would soon would bail and grow-up to become a well-respected man –

I am a great admirer of Jonathan's work and when he approached me with this wonderful piece of music asking if I might have a go at lyrics and a vocal I felt really privileged. I wanted to try to do as good a job as I could, but initially I struggled, and then, feeling extremely despondent I took a break from it. On my second attempt I think I started to listen properly to what the music was saying – rather than imposing too much of myself on it – and I  began to get melodies and word patterns that seemed like they were there under the surface already.

This has been an amazing project to work on, and Jonathan has been hugely supportive throughout. I've done my bit for sure, but it would have been nothing without the music.
