Gracious Host is the first offering from Love Writes itself; the upcoming sophomore album by Christopher Smith’s atmospheric pop project Dralms. Recorded and co-produced in Vancouver along side sound designer Mirko Vogel (Cut Copy), Love Writes Itself is Smith’s full bloom exploration of romantic, if heartbreaking, orchestral pop. The album meshes the ambient digital washes of his project’s previous record Shook, with blushing woodwinds and opulent string arrangements; all of this anchored by songwriter Smith’s soft, but resolute tenor. Gracious Host speaks of the bond that the prospect of a severance can bring; how knowing you are going to lose someone or something only brings you closer to it. Love Writes Itself will be released worldwide in early 2020.

A Dream Within Reason

Originally the moniker Dralms functioned as departure point from songwriter Christopher Smith’s solo work. It was an opportunity to embrace a new process and indulge in a new feel. Taking off from where Smith’s live shows had left off, with a bigger, more band-oriented sound. 2015’s acclaimed debut record Shook was a combination of closer to date material as well as older reworked pieces. Adding lush textures to a live template of guitars, keyboards, drums while employing dub-style tape echo, Melodica, even gospel esc backup vocals. Smith meanwhile had put down his guitar to focus on his vocals, leading us with a heather of romantic hushes into dove soft discussions on concepts of purpose, to the taboos and perils of our love lives. Dralms are mood for thought. 
Soon after the release 2014’s EP Crushed Pleats, the original line up essentially disbanded, but Dralms continued to tour the UK and EU extensively with a rotation of players including Smith’s long time collaborator William Kendrick who he continues work with as Dralms nears the completion of new releases slated for 2017/2018
