In a scene where only some have been able to tackle the art of musical flexibility and versatility, Jathniel 

“Maddness” Solomon has shown that he is capable of molding himself into any form that the industry 

calls for. With talents spanning from singing and songwriting to production, this young artiste is out to 

prove that he has the elasticity to stretch his gift of musicality over many aspects of the music world.

Though several of his achievements are recent, Maddness is no stranger to the music/entertainment scene. 

He began performing in front of an audience at the age of seven with his church choir and later joined the 

world-renowned Boys’ Choir of Harlem. He also trained and studied at Polambo Academy of Music in 

Bronx, NY. It was during these opportunities that the young Jathniel sought to become the multifaceted 

musician that he is today.

Born of Antiguan parentage, Maddness was exposed to Calypso and Soca music regularly from a very 

young age. He began to absorb the melodies and lyrics of the legendary Soca Band Burning Flames, as 

well as Calypso greats such as King Short Shirt, King Swallow, and The Mighty Shadow. He was also 

musically influenced by a wide array of talented musicians and producers including producer Dalton 

“Pickeyhead” Dyer, producer Gavin Christopher, legendary artiste and band leader Clarence “Oungku” 

Edwards, Trinidadian producer/songwriter Kernal Roberts, and Virgin Islands producer Daddy Jones. 

Once Maddness began to hone in on his own abilities, his ‘passion for soca’ grew and was depicted in 

2008 through his first solo single titled, “Passion For Soca” in which he put his love for Caribbean music 

into perspective.

Maddness’ professional music career took off during his two-year tenure with Soca Band, Black Quorum 

Entertainment, also known as B.Q.E Band. Beginning in 2008, he sang with Antigua’s Tonik Band under 

the direction of Dalton Dyer. It was with the backing of Tonik Band that Maddness released “Passion For 

Soca” among other solo singles produced by Dalton Dyer including “Sexy Lady” and “Chipp’N Away”.

Maddness has performed throughout the U.S. and the Caribbean in a number of parades, venues, and 

events including the 2009 Antigua Carnival Caribbean Melting Pot at Antigua Recreation Grounds and 

Antigua & Barbuda Day in Marcus Garvey Park in New York. He has made incredible strides in his 

music career, particularly with the recent development of his production studio, Madd Vybes Muzik. 

Following its establishment, he has worked closely with a number of Caribbean artistes and producers 

including Ricardo Drue, Lionel “Jeaucar” Blucher, and Gelissa “Laydii Gege” Guadalupe. In anticipation 

of the upcoming carnival season, Maddness has written and produced a number of singles including 

“Chipp’n” by Laydii Gege, “Fete We Love” and “Maddness.”

With hopes of touching Soca lovers and entertaining World Music fans alike, Maddness continues to 

live out his dreams beyond what many musicians accomplish in a lifetime. His talents as a vocalist, 

instrumentalist, songwriter, arranger, and producer somehow mesh perfectly to create a musical 

powerhouse that is soon to take the region by storm. His art form continues to flourish and will reach 

remarkable plateaus in the near future.
