Balloons Kill Babies make heavy instrumental post-rock in Brisbane, Queensland. Succinctly described as “huge and dark,” their performances in and around the city attract audiences hungry for something different. 

Their recently released debut is Leviathan, combining the delicate, layered textures of Sigur Ros with the driving insistence of Nine Inch Nails. Sam Haycroft (Sydonia; I Am Duckeye) provided original artwork and graphic design, while seminal local producer Marly Luske (The Red Paintings; Deep Purple) has recorded, mixed and mastered all tracks. This limited production of only 300 copies was released July 20th at the Brisbane leg of Welkin Entertainment’s SANS VOX festival.

Leviathan has received airplay on community radio and the Andrew Haug "Heavy at Home" program. 

Guitarist Christian Carter and drummer Francis Daly formed and dismantled progressive doom metal Anhedonia by the age of 21. They now produce intricate, beautifully textured sounds directly from the collective subconscious. Bassist Karl O’Shea began his musical career with alternative rock outfit My Dying Days and drives the band’s low end with a resolute and experimental approach.

A Townsville-based native of South Australia, Mark has been a stalwart in the Townsville music scene for 7 years now, busking most weekends on Flinders St East and gigging whenever he can. In more recent years, Mark has also played at numerous festivals along the East Coast, including Townsville Cultural Fest 2014, with more coming later this year.
 
Fusing elements of blues, roots, rock, alternative, folk and classical; as a solo artist Mark has developed a distinctive sound. Combining his unique vocal tones, ranging from smooth and soulful to rockin' wails, with driving rhythms, intricate melodies and dynamic percussion from his guitar, Mark's original performance is intended to provoke thought, evoke emotions and inspire unity.

Drawing from a selection of original tracks, weaved with improvised instrumentals and poignant sentiments; whether delivering an inspired lyric or sliding and screaming his way around the frets, the sounds of Mark Hillman reach out and envelop listeners in sonic bliss, with the intention of leaving them feeling uplifted and inspired.
