For the next installment of Manc institution El Diablo’s Social Club’s ‘To Rack & Ruin’ edits series comes from local Manc lads Out of the Basement who bring us two late summer bombs.
These tracks have both been kicking around for over a year now in slightly different forms but now we bring them to you fully refined and suitably mastered heavily for the dancefloor.

Out of the Basement are Steve Leggat and James Ellis. Both have been involved in Manchester's colourful music scene - amongst other things Steve has been running legendary Beat Club with The Stone Roses Mani and James is the founder of Manchester's now defunct deep house label ‘Drenched’.

Side A is a splendid edit of lost soul classic with beats and instruments added for full effect. Side B is a sleazy slo mo cut up of the Brothers Johnson version of the Shuggie Otis anthem 'Strawberry Letter 23'.

"Sojourner" album is a medieval tale of a traveller, an adventurer, sharing his stories from lands far away. It is a collaborative effort between Medieval Tales and an array of popular artists across the lofi scene.

The music blends traditional medieval and ethnic instrumentation with acoustic guitars and a chill drum beat, creating very atmospheric soundtrack for some background reading or fantasy games.

First up they get the scissors out on Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell's late 60s soul anthem "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing", turning it into an extended, chugging disco-soul bomb. Next up is Bobby Hebb's version of the classic "Sunny", this time with the simplest of house beats added, making this an essential for Marcy Hotel nights. Lastly the Festivals' super-slow soul smoocher "You've Got The Makings Of A Lover" gets seriously pepped-up, with BPMs pushed towards peak-time dancefloor action.
