NYアンダーグラウンド・ディスコ〜ハウス・シーンにおける最重要人物、Eric Duncan（エリック・ダンカン）。
DJ Harvey以降のワイルドなミクスチャーセンスを体現できる数少ない本物のDJの一人。
Thomas Bullockとのレジェンダリー・オルナタティヴ・ディスコデュオ「Rub N Tug」としても世界中で活躍している。
 
1990年代中期にNYマンハッタンのダウンタウンでDJ活動を開始。1996年に、プロスケーターのRick HowardとMike Carroll、ハリウッド映画監督のSpike Jonze（当時はビデオディレクター）、そしてRickの妻であるMegan Baltimoreの4人によって1993年にカリフォルニアで設立された、スーパースター揃いのスケートボードカンパニー「Girl Skateboards」の超名作ビデオ『MOUSE』の音楽をキュレート。
 
その後、伝説のDJクルー「Wicked」の元メンバーにして、DJ Harveyとのユニット「Map of Africa」でも知られる奇才、Thomas Bullockと「Rub N Tug」を結成。HARDCORE partyを繰り広げ、NYのアンダーグラウンドなレフトフィールド、ディスコ・シーンを形成。2005年にベルギーのEskimo Recordingsからリリースした『Rub N Tug presents Campfire』では、ハウス、ディスコ、ロック、エレクトロなどジャンルを超えて、彼ら自身のパーティーのグルーヴを凝縮。”ミックスCDの金字塔”として今も称賛されている本作により、DJ／パーティーコレクティブとして世界的な評価を決定的なものにした。
 
2006年にLiv Spencerと「Still Going」をスタートしてDFA Recordsよりシングルリリース。さらに、Dean Meredith (Chicken Lips)との「The Rhythm Odyssey & Dr. Dunks」では、強烈なディスコダブやスローモなアシッドエレクトロ・チューンをGolf Channelよりリリース。2015年にはNYの盟友Justin Vandervolgen (My Rules, TBD, !!!)とラギッドなアナログマシーンミュージック・プロジェクト「Happy Family」を始動して、303使いが印象的なアシッドハウスやレイヴィーなシンセリフが鮮烈なダンスナンバーをドロップ。2016年に本名「Eric Duncan」名義では初となるオリジナルソロ作品を発表。80'sイタロディスコムードやバレアリックなエッセンスを絶妙に散りばめたニューディスコ・トラックに、イタリアの重鎮Daniele Baldelli & Marco Dionigiの黄金コンビがコズミックな中毒性の高いリミックスで華を添えた。
 
ソロ名義「Eric Duncan aka Dr. Dunks」では、オリジナル／リエディット共に多数の傑作をリリース。また、ソロおよびRub N Tugなどのコラボで、Beastie Boys、Grace Jones、Cold Play、Roxy Music、Bryan Ferry、Robbie Williams、Laid Back、Groove Armada、LCD Soundsystem、Chk Chk Chk、Lindstrøm、Todd Terje、Daniele Baldelli、Locussolusら数多くのリミックスも手がけている。
 
2005年の「Stussy Major Blade Tour」では、Michael K (Gimme 5)、Paul T (Sarcastic)らと全国4都市を回り、2013年には全国9都市に及ぶ「Rub N Tug Japan Tour」を敢行。2015年の東京ファッションウィークに開催された「Know Wave Tokyo Party」では、カリスマスケーターAlex Olsonらと来日出演。2017年に青山で行われたCalvin Kleinのエクスクルーシヴ・パーティーでは、Nina KravizやJamie xx、James Murphyらと共にDJ参加するなど、音楽やアート、ファッション、ストリート・シーンと深い関わりを持っている。ここ日本でも絶大な人気を誇るEric Duncan、2019年以来3年ぶりとなる来日がいよいよ実現する。

In July 2010, I got an invitation to play at a small but neat festival named Folk Ibiza. It was my first visit to the island. I got to spin at a bunch of different locations, such as the Hostal Boutique Salinas, Sunset Ashram, and on the terrace at Space. I returned in September of the following year to play a set on Andy Wilson's show on Ibiza Sonica and a second time at the Hostal. I have not been back to Ibiza since. I recently came across this picture (taken at Cala Compte next to Sunset Ashram), which inspired me to make this mix. I tried to sonically capture the vibe that I felt back then. It includes some bona fide classics such as Ashra "Oasis“, Santana "Aqua Marine," and Jah Wobble & Holger Czukay "Hold On To Your Dreams," as well as tunes by Smith & Mudd, Begin, Quiet Village and more. In the first week of September we're heading to the beautiful scenery of Tisno, Croatia, to celebrate the first edition of Dekmantel Selectors. In the run up to the festival, we've launched a new temporary podcast-series where we invite ten of our selectors from the festival to dig deep in their unique collections. The idea behind the mix is to create a Time Document, focusing on a specific period of time with the artist being free in choosing this period. This period could in fact entail anything: a certain decennia, the time he or she fell in love, The Cold War, November ’92 – March ’93, or the rise of Nigerian music. It’s up to the Selectors to choose and tell us a story based on their music collection.

Selectors Podcast 008 comes from an established and respected record dealer based in the UK, who has been the go to guy for rare music for many years now. But if you don’t know Nick The Record, that probably is because he has focused on a DJ-career in Japan for the last decennia’s. It’s in the magical country where he started a series of parties with a Japanese crew called Lifeforce and eventually became the resident DJ. After throwing their first rave party in 1993, their alliance lasted for almost twenty years. Nick: "There was already a strong established club scene in Japan at the time, bringing lots of name DJ’s from the USA. The idea with Lifeforce was to add a little of the UK rave culture to the mix. It was a very grass roots, friends of friends type affair which grew organically. The music we played was mostly house and acid with some disco thrown in too."
 
With his Selectors Time Document, Nick travels back in time and takes us on a typical Lifeforce night trip. Nick: "So this mix actually spans two decades but focusses on a specific time of night. Lifeforce was usually held in a studio or warehouse space and was always an all night party going until six or seven in the morning (except for the outdoor parties that would always go longer). So within this mix, we zone in on the last hour of a typical night like that and the encore tunes. There was always still a good amount of people at the end of the night and they would always demand at least three encores. 

 His typical way of mixing is recognized within this mix. No proper four to the floor mixing, but good records and great vibes is what matters the most. Nick: "After a long night of high tempo dancing to house and disco, I always like to gradually slow it down a little with some slower house, disco and then gradually stop mixing and just play great records. It can be something super soulful, jazzy or trippy. Depending on the feel of the party, it can be something slow, deep and meditative, or something high octane to send the crowd home on a high. It will always be something highly emotive in the end. As a result of all this, there isn’t too much mixing within this mix. Just the first thirty minutes to slow you down and open you up to that early morning vibe."
