NYアンダーグラウンド・ディスコ〜ハウス・シーンにおける最重要人物、Eric Duncan（エリック・ダンカン）。
DJ Harvey以降のワイルドなミクスチャーセンスを体現できる数少ない本物のDJの一人。
Thomas Bullockとのレジェンダリー・オルナタティヴ・ディスコデュオ「Rub N Tug」としても世界中で活躍している。
 
1990年代中期にNYマンハッタンのダウンタウンでDJ活動を開始。1996年に、プロスケーターのRick HowardとMike Carroll、ハリウッド映画監督のSpike Jonze（当時はビデオディレクター）、そしてRickの妻であるMegan Baltimoreの4人によって1993年にカリフォルニアで設立された、スーパースター揃いのスケートボードカンパニー「Girl Skateboards」の超名作ビデオ『MOUSE』の音楽をキュレート。
 
その後、伝説のDJクルー「Wicked」の元メンバーにして、DJ Harveyとのユニット「Map of Africa」でも知られる奇才、Thomas Bullockと「Rub N Tug」を結成。HARDCORE partyを繰り広げ、NYのアンダーグラウンドなレフトフィールド、ディスコ・シーンを形成。2005年にベルギーのEskimo Recordingsからリリースした『Rub N Tug presents Campfire』では、ハウス、ディスコ、ロック、エレクトロなどジャンルを超えて、彼ら自身のパーティーのグルーヴを凝縮。”ミックスCDの金字塔”として今も称賛されている本作により、DJ／パーティーコレクティブとして世界的な評価を決定的なものにした。
 
2006年にLiv Spencerと「Still Going」をスタートしてDFA Recordsよりシングルリリース。さらに、Dean Meredith (Chicken Lips)との「The Rhythm Odyssey & Dr. Dunks」では、強烈なディスコダブやスローモなアシッドエレクトロ・チューンをGolf Channelよりリリース。2015年にはNYの盟友Justin Vandervolgen (My Rules, TBD, !!!)とラギッドなアナログマシーンミュージック・プロジェクト「Happy Family」を始動して、303使いが印象的なアシッドハウスやレイヴィーなシンセリフが鮮烈なダンスナンバーをドロップ。2016年に本名「Eric Duncan」名義では初となるオリジナルソロ作品を発表。80'sイタロディスコムードやバレアリックなエッセンスを絶妙に散りばめたニューディスコ・トラックに、イタリアの重鎮Daniele Baldelli & Marco Dionigiの黄金コンビがコズミックな中毒性の高いリミックスで華を添えた。
 
ソロ名義「Eric Duncan aka Dr. Dunks」では、オリジナル／リエディット共に多数の傑作をリリース。また、ソロおよびRub N Tugなどのコラボで、Beastie Boys、Grace Jones、Cold Play、Roxy Music、Bryan Ferry、Robbie Williams、Laid Back、Groove Armada、LCD Soundsystem、Chk Chk Chk、Lindstrøm、Todd Terje、Daniele Baldelli、Locussolusら数多くのリミックスも手がけている。
 
2005年の「Stussy Major Blade Tour」では、Michael K (Gimme 5)、Paul T (Sarcastic)らと全国4都市を回り、2013年には全国9都市に及ぶ「Rub N Tug Japan Tour」を敢行。2015年の東京ファッションウィークに開催された「Know Wave Tokyo Party」では、カリスマスケーターAlex Olsonらと来日出演。2017年に青山で行われたCalvin Kleinのエクスクルーシヴ・パーティーでは、Nina KravizやJamie xx、James Murphyらと共にDJ参加するなど、音楽やアート、ファッション、ストリート・シーンと深い関わりを持っている。ここ日本でも絶大な人気を誇るEric Duncan、2019年以来3年ぶりとなる来日がいよいよ実現する。

Lately there’s been a lot of old DJ Harvey and Daniele Baldelli mixes in my ears, so naturally I’ve been digging for that lush, spacey Balearic sound. From there I’ve zig zagged between late 80s NYC, early 90s Ibiza, and the cosmic birthplace that was mid 70s Italy. 

When I’m not digging, I geek out hard and read, watch docos, and listen to podcasts on music history. The stories behind the Loft, Studio 54, and iconic beachside clubs like
“Baia Degli Angeli” (Bay of Angels) are pure gold and they helped pave the way for the cosmic wave we’re still riding today. This mix is my salute to that era, along with some more recent releases for good measure. Enjoy!

Crown Ruler Mix #29 turns to the talented @dea-barandana, a Jakarta-based Digger/DJ/Producer/Composer who recently impressed Australian audiences with his current live music project, @preciousbloom__

Barandana is highly regarded for his global record digging and innovative dance music productions releasing an array of hot music under the names Dea and Zatua, with distribution by Gudu Records, Second Circle, and Sound Metaphors.

His compositions are distinguished by unique melodies inspired by his passion for obscure Asian film soundtracks but when in DJ mode you can expect anything.

In this 60 min session Dea presents his recent dancefloor discoveries across new beat and new wave sounds.

A protegé of Lexx and Alex Dallas from Club Zukunft and Drumpoet Community, Kejeblos belongs to that invincible circle of friends, whose members CCO, Wavetest and Late Invitation are doing the wickedest Chicago House in Liechtenstein, sorry, Switzerland.

German producer Tilman puts his personal spin on Sharon Redd’s classic Activate, delivering two distinct reworks that both nod to the roots of house music while offering fresh dancefloor appeal.

The Metro Mix channels early proto house energy – raw and driving with a no-frills groove that brings out the track’s underground potential. A tribute to stripped-back club tools with just the right amount of grit.

Meanwhile, the Paradise Mix smooths things out, layering warm pads, flowing piano chords and mellow grooves into a deep house rework that feels timeless and inviting.

Back with the goods - The first ever B2B edition in the Crown Ruler mix series comes from Amsterdam-based record dudes, Robert Bergman & Calypso Steve. Name a more iconic duo, we'll wait.

It's easy to be fooled by the low profile, the raillery and the nonchalant personas. They are the anti-heroes in a self-promo fuelled DJ rat race. Don't get it twisted though, this lethal pairing goes deep.

Well respected by the who's who in digging circles, these two break the records to your favourite DJ who then "breaks" those records again. Over the years you could find each behind the desk at two of the world's most noteworthy record stores, Rush Hour and Redlight Records respectively. Both have proven to be ahead of the curve in digging trends yet just as admirably, are not guided by obscurities. Their savvy ears and discerning taste prove ever reliable for music lovers making sense of two heavy collections.
