This song is a solo bass composition of mine. Near the middle, I start using my looper and more effects. Everything you hear is the bass alone, and everything is live, one take & without edit. Hope you enjoy it. Oh and the photo is of my hedgehog Tibbers, guarding his own corridor

Aside from it being the start of a command line scripting language...

My first song on this EP is called “Root”

I called it this because of a few reasons.

We start the root of this story back in Mexico where my dad was messing around with the guitar and some friends asked if they could use a neat guitar riff that he was playing. So essentially my dad helped co-write a song back in Mexico with an old friend. I was mind-blown at this fact since I wanted to hear this song! As it turns out, no recording of it was ever made :(

I then asked him if he still keeps in contact with buddy but with it being such a long time since that happened, he can’t remember his name. (This was before internet times!)

A couple years later he decided to buy himself a guitar and teach himself how to play a few songs. So when I came around as a tiny human, I wanted to play on this instrument. After wrecking his guitar by adding a lovely scratch by the sound hole :p , he decided to enroll me in some proper guitar lessons. Specifically spanish and jazz guitar lessons.

As I reflect on these facts and choices my dad made, I always wonder if I would be this same type of musical person or very different... I then figured it would be really neat to start off this EP with him playing guitar at the start here and then I would join in and continue the song from there.

You can hear how the progression of acoustic guitar riffs sounds off and a bit out of time… this is supposed to signify how when you first start learning something, you won’t be good. But over time, with some practice and patience, your skills will improve and turn into something that you are stoked to share with others.

Anyways, enjoy this new song called “Root” from my new EP, which I haven’t named yet but will let you know by the time we reach the last song here

Cornshed spawned it's own genre, clusterfolk. It's basically taking folk tunes, played at punkrock tempos, with a truly wild and unexpected live show. This was recorded live off the floor with no edits at the Warehouse, in Vancouver, BC. The lineup during this record was Marc Lovisa (drums), Andrew Mueller (guitar), Tegan Cheski-Smith (violin), Drew Sexsmith (mandolin), and Joseph Henderson McCance (bass).
