The cover art as a visual tribute to Billy Nichols. To honor his life, legacy and the multifaceted contributions he made to disco music. Here is a quote from him which I’d like to share.

“After listening to the songs I thought they were too funky and did an arrangement that was more disco-oriented. After laying the rhythm tracks I went back in the studio and I did all of the percussion breakdowns by myself to add a Latin flavor. One day the door to the control booth opened and it was Mel Cheren, President of WESTEND RECORDS wanting to know if he could listen to what we were doing. After listening for a while he asked if I would let him have the first chance to buy our record."

Our yearly Christmas special has descended — a mix of experimental and off-the-shelf holiday music to lift the spirit.

This festive season is extremely off. 
Images of joy alternate with scenes of terror on our screens and in our thoughts. We hope that this Christmas is a moment not to look away but to gaze inward. Music not only soothes but also nurtures perseverance. Or as Death says, explaining the nature of belief in Hogfather (2006) — “You need to believe things that aren’t true. How else they can become?”

This year’s mix is collaged by Scrying the Landscape’s Hannah Pezzack and Elina Tapio, together with Rubber’s own The Social Lover.

RUBBER TIJD / X-Mess Special 6 (with Hannah Pezzack and Elina Tapio)

Foreign is the pseudonym used by Miguel Vázquez under which he plays sets of IDM, avant-techno and electro sounds, combining the smoothness and efficiency of transparent melodies with abstract landscapes and dense atmospheres loaded with complex polyrhythmic structures. Throughout the years Foreign has played in several events of Hard Taste, A.I. Series and in clubs like NAO, Dub Club, Specka, Graffiti, Shagü Club, etc. Has also published podcasts for different record labels and web platforms (Sin Hilo, Gladio Operations, Zanderhythm, Archaic, etc.). In 2022 he created his own label, Mutoscope Records, mostly oriented to IDM sound. Its first release (by Veelargo) was released in November 2023.

This Mix was done with all vinyl except for track 11.
