Twice does not lead to a tradition - but it feels like playing for @swimsupply 🏊 . Whenever the community organisation focusing on lysergic sounds calls, I am more than happy to meet beloved Ellen, Mark Lando and Tesdorpf and to play for their fine events.

Let’s go out with a bang for this last transmission of the season. As my services are requested elsewhere for this show, I have dug up a special treat. Recorded at exactly the same time last year @ Point FMR, this set from the Supercamp Off literally blew the roof offf. However, let’s say it was just a warm-up to something special that happened in the same place a few weeks ago, which will be shared with you soon. A lot has happened since our last pre-pandemic episode. While streaming DJ sets may have lost some momentum, we believe there's still a space for timeless, distinctive mixes from artists we respect — whether they're long-time players or emerging talents from our circle. So now feels like the right time to relaunch the Pomcast.

Kicking things off is our dear colleague and friend, Chicago’s own m50.

For those familiar, m50 is synonymous with high-quality, deeply personal, and immersive electronic sets. His work through the weekly "etc radio" broadcasts, his productions as Area (his debut album dropped on François K’s Wave Music in 2012), and his vinyl-only label Kimochi all showcase a unique and nuanced musical voice.

We’ve been big fans of Israel Vines ever since hearing him play out in LA warehouses some 15+ years ago. A true veteran of the US underground, Israel spent his formative rave years in Detroit and Chicago in the early 90’s - where he worked at the legendary Gramaphone Records - before going on to become the distinguished producer/DJ we know him as today, with releases on Tresor, Semantica, Cult Figures, and Eye Teeth (sub-label of Detroit’s own @ithqdetroit ).

Both Israel’s productions and sets reveal his encyclopedic knowledge of, and a deep love for, abstract electronic music - always carrying his signature heady sound and flair for bold artistic expression. Israel has played for us several times before at @gradientcampout and other collabs with our homies eternal @printshop.club ❤️ We're thrilled and honored to have his contribution to Palm Reader, our series dedicated to ambient and experimental for wayfinding in stillness. This mix was recorded live at our Palm Reader label preview night (!) on Friday, June 13th, indoors at Plata in Silver Lake. Palm Reader 11: Israel Vines

A special midweek addition to the Ceremony mix series comes this week from Casper Clark aka Volte-Face. An artist I’ve long admired, Casper has worn many hats over the years including producer, DJ, radio show host and label head but is perhaps best known for his adventures in promoting events across London and further afield, starting out co-booking Adventures in the Beetroot Field at Camden’s Lock Tavern before running the seminal Blogger’s Delight at the same venue, to Glastonbury, The End and everywhere in between. After Blogger’s Delight ended Clark started promoting under the BleeD name for In Strict Tempo favourites Blackest Ever Black, Downwards and Diagonal amongst others. 

This recording, taken from London’s Unfold is a two hour journey of deep, brooding techno Volte-Face is synonymous with. In his own words: “Unfold CIV was my first Volte-Face gig since a fateful show at Tresor in 2019. It was good to be back. Apologies for the occasional glitches in the recording”

Ceremony #3: Volte-Face

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of attending the fourth edition of Mostra, one of the most beautiful, safe, and welcoming gatherings we've ever experienced. It was an intimate, four-day festival in the city of Barcelona dedicated to exploring experimental electronic music and the avant-garde — expertly curated and surrounded by a beautiful community of like-minded souls who treated us like family.

On the second day of the festival at Fabra i Coats — inside one of the most respectful and attentive listening rooms, with an audience whose silence drew you even deeper into the sound — Detroit legend and Mostra resident Patrick Russell took his place in the booth, seated this year, and delivered a deeply moving and powerful sonic trip — one we’re honored to share with you today.

A big thank you to Patrick and Mostra for giving us the opportunity to share one of our favourite performances of the festival.
