To guide us through the next simulated experience; Passing Notes Radio boss and 1/2 of the great new label ‘Companion', Pjenné [Melbourne, AUS], shows us what a utopian existence can sound, feel and look like.

Follow on as she glides through the stratosphere, looking down on the lush greenery and crystal water that our earth effortlessly inhabits... occasionally looking up into the vast display of distant stars and planets, glittering across the stillness of outer space.

Pjenné beautifully illustrates the phenomenology of nature through tracks which touch on each element, whether that be the ethereality of air, the intricacy of water, the depth of earth, or just the pure warmth flowing through this immaculately thought-out audible narrative.

We couldn’t help but think this would be the perfect soundtrack for the day peace on earth is declared, where humanity sits back and appreciates a new world— where collectively, we love what grows, exists and dies.

This small blue dot is our home… our balanced oasis in the desert of space. Perhaps we need the ability to fly to see a different perspective - and we’re sure this will help.

Guy Contact is the alias of Perth-based producer and rising star Callum Chute.  Specialising in his own contemporary brand of hardware-focused progressive house, Guy Contact has been hard at work refining his sound since his EP ‘Liminal Space’ dropped on Butter Sessions nearing the end of 2019. The result is a unique and unquestionably cohesive sound palette of pulsating grooves, trance-like overtones and blissful pads - all wrapped up and raring to energise any dancefloor. Following a run of stand out 12” EPs on the likes of Coymix Ltd, Haws Music and Craigie Knowes, Guy Contact is also plotting a follow up release on Butter Sessions due by the end of the year. A mix from LOIF for the Animix series makes perfect sense. Declan ( @loiflan ) has the most incredible knack for weaving deep, layered, magical musical journeys, and is fast growing a name for himself as one of the most exciting up and coming producers in Melbourne.

In recent times, we've seen a slew of recent @loiflan releases on compilations for labels such as @ute-rec x @amniote-editions, @purespacefm and @local_knowledge, and incredible mixes for @pipipigroup, @neurocrankk and @steeplejackrec. After attending Labyrinth festival in Japan together a few years ago as avid music fans, which I can safely say inspired us both immensely, it's been amazing to watch Declan grow and evolve as an artist over the last few years, and really develop a unique style. 

Keep an eye out for a Loif release on Animalia coming later this year.

Animix Seventy: spoiler

Number eighty....wow. No better time to finally bring in segment one of on a Ménage (@menagerecords) animix This time a continuous mix of their newest release, Backburners vol.2, released on their own label Ménage records. An incredible compilation of tunes that foray between deep house, tech & late night bassy bangers.

I feel a deep and real sense of pride towards Ménage and their continued evolution. They have clearly been integral to the growth of Animalia, but beyond that, watching them all continue to evolve as both friends and musicians has been so special and heartwarming... Let alone the fact they are probably Naarm's most down to earth, musically passionate, and talented people I know. 

They've recently been debuting their(impeccable)  live set locally, but watch out European summer for some very special live Ménage sets.

Animix Eighty: Ménage (Backburners Vol.2 )

Melbourne based label @papercutslimited join us for Butter Mix 91 with a fresh blend of tripped out and intelligent electronics mixed by label head Dylan Batelic! The  relatively new imprint kicked off their catalogue with a brave flexi disc (!) release in 2017 and have since graced us with releases by Hybrid Man, Furious Frank, Rings Around Saturn etc etc. Keep an ear out for some more brain tingling releases in the future no doubt!

Butter Mix #91 - Paper Cuts

Montreal-based DJ, producer and label owner Francis Latrielle, better known as Priori, joins us for the 79th edition of the Phonica Mix Series.

Priori has become a firm favourite of ours here at Phonica over the past couple of years. His releases, which crossover through many electronic genres, from house and techno to IDM and ambient, have been picked up by such labels as Echovolt and Dust E-1’s Dust World in recent years, although much of his musical output, including his phenomenal 2019 album, ‘On A Nimbus’, comes via his own label, NAFF, which he co-runs with fellow Montrealer Ex-Terrestrial.
