"the Train Kept A-Rollin" was supposedly the first tune attempted at "Led Zeppelin"s  first get together in August 1968.... They played the tune frequently during their first six months....then the tune was brought back in 1980 as the show opener on what turned out to be their final tour.

"Shapes Of Things" was a hit for the Yardbirds in 1966 during their Jeff Beck era. 
They continued playing it with Jimmy Page until the band's dissolution.
Occasionally bits of it would turn up in Led Zeppelin's jams...

Jeff Beck later recorded a new arrangement of the song with his Jeff Beck Group featuring Rod Stewart...
