Performed by Ben Clark and Antonin Granier on 13.6.19 at LOOSE, LINE, LAYER in St. Mary-at-Hill, London.

The piece invites a child-like curiosity towards the instrument, and simply investigates its sonic possibilities. The materials arose from working collaboratively with percussionists Ben Clark and Antonin Granier. The first movement explores flexibility, the second looping elements, the third resonance.

The near future is determined by how we respond to current state. Suss Müsik imagines this transition as one of turbulence and restraint, best described by Galway Kinnell in his poem entitled “Wait.”

Wait, for now.
Distrust everything, if you have to.
But trust the hours. Haven't they
carried you everywhere, up to now?
Personal events will become interesting again.
Hair will become interesting.
Pain will become interesting.
Buds that open out of season will become lovely again.
Second-hand gloves will become lovely again,
their memories are what give them
the need for other hands. And the desolation
of lovers is the same: that enormous emptiness
carved out of such tiny beings as we are
asks to be filled; the need
for the new love is faithfulness to the old.
 
Wait.
Don't go too early.
You're tired. But everyone's tired.
But no one is tired enough.
Only wait a while and listen.
Music of hair,
Music of pain,
music of looms weaving all our loves again.
Be there to hear it, it will be the only time,
most of all to hear,
the flute of your whole existence,
rehearsed by the sorrows, play itself into total exhaustion.

Simple  (POSITIVE FIELDS PRE-ORDER ON BANDCAMP)

Impulsive Habitat, 2014.

The material of this work is based on a static recording: I installed a microphone under the roof of my father's house in a small village in Alsace (France) for one year. Each day, I recorded one minute of sound on the hour at four different intervals: midnight, morning, noon and evening. I subsequently selected one recording per week for each of the intervals.
These (untreated) recordings were then sewn together in four different tracks, one for each time of day, spanning the course of a year. This results in a cyclical movement consisting of four different time-lapse sequences that trace the entirety of a year in one place.

Dr. Merkaba (born Tyler Loring) is a lyricist, musician & songwriter. In addition to multiple solo releases under the moniker Dr. Merkaba, he is a founding member of the hip hop duo Edword Sizzamouf, conceptualized with fellow San Diego Rap mind Mike Tappen. Other projects include Pengineer with San DIego veteran rapper Mr. Ceezzo, and various compositions under the aliases Lyphe Cycle, Hue Lorenzen and Tyler Loring.
