Dark Horse (Fox and Brennan)

This is the latest song from the album Wou-Wou & the Wormling, Stricknice, Bitzone, and I have been working on. Like all the rest of the songs in the set, this one began during the start of the pandemic and reflects the changes in political perspective that were happening in society, and continue to this day. And, as with the other songs, I started this song with an unreleased demo from Wou-Wou and created a 1 minute outline which I then often passed on to a guest collaborator. When it came time to fully work on the track, I expanded on the original idea, along with the guest collaborator stems, until a full song was arranged. I then passed the bones and organs of the song to Stricknice and Bitzone to add any additional muscles and flesh they believed in until it was finished. I am so blessed to work with Wou-Wou, Bitzone, Stricknice, and all the guest collaborators on this inspired set, that one day will be complete. 

May everyone find something authentic to themselves to believe in.

This is a very youthful song (1980), a fabulous love story between the wind and the moon (almost a children's song, in essence). The melody has never changed, despite the many versions I have produced over the years. This is the latest, and from a few years ago; recording's quality is not professional, voices are often misaligned, but I don't want redo from the start, then only added vocal samples to improve a little on the too sparse arrangement that was there.

ENGLISH LYRICS

He had velvet eyes
and a cardboard backpack
and a mask found
in the eye of the storm

his lips a little faded
but like a flower in her buttonhole
he placed her among the favourites

His hundred years she carried them
without the help of a cane

This song began as a well developed, funky disco idea Roy came up with on his guitar, and shared with JJ. JJ added a wonderfully complex orchestration of various keys, including brass, strings, and the sax solo you hear towards the end. 
  JJ invited Stephen Stephen first, who came up with the funky ass wah guitar that also carries the groove. Of course, JJ realized that this is a disco song, so he enlisted Ken to come up with one of his awesome beats to carry it along. JJ had a rudimentary bass line that he played himself, but decided to get Josh to do the honors instead. So, Josh came up with a totally new bass line designed to shake your cheeks.
Once it was in the can, we decided to ask have JJ mix it for us. This is a first time JJ has mixed a song for The Eclectic Collective, and we were all impressed with his work. Stephen mastered it, as he is a master masterer. 
  We're all really impressed and delighted with the experience of working with Roy and his music. He is a very talented artist with a lot of great music to check out on his page, too.
  We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it, and that it makes you shake your hips while you're doing the dishes, too!

Shag Carpet-Eclectic Collective

We lingered at the café door, clutching notebooks and nerves alike. Inside, a gentle strum of guitar mingled with the low murmur of conversation and the rich aroma of coffee. It was a space brimming with ease, but for us, every step forward felt unsteady, like toddlers daring to walk across an unfamiliar room. Our years didn’t make us immune to fear; they only made it easier to hesitate. When our name was called, the impulse to retreat was strong, but then we noticed a toddler at a nearby table, stacking sugar packets with clumsy hands. Again and again, they tumbled to the table, and each collapse was met with laughter and another attempt.

Inspired by the simple courage of that child, we walked to the microphone, our steps faltering but resolute. Words stumbled out at first, shaky and uncertain, but like a child finding rhythm, we gained steadiness with each line. The applause that followed felt less like validation and more like belonging, a reminder that trying mattered more than succeeding. As we sat back down, the toddler's joy lingered in our thoughts, their persistence mirroring the lessons we were only now learning to embrace. Life, we realized, was a series of toppled towers, rebuilt with care and laughter—proof that we, too, were still fairly new to it all.
