Definitely one of my favorite sets as of recent, I had the opportunity to bring the sun down at Nowadays Nonstop, to a crowd so enmeshed in a thinning sunny haze of a Sunday afternoon. It felt like the first day of spring, and it was so sweaty and so sexy.

Earlier this year, we described Los Angeles act 1morning as one of the funkiest young producers in modern-day techno. And we stand by it. The fast-rising upstart is building a solid fan base around North America and beyond with a rugged, vintage style of swung techno and hardgroove. His all-vinyl DJ sets and pumping productions on the likes of Fixed Rhythms and Mála Ádh stand out for their distinctly old-school flavour—steamrolling hi-hats à la Robert Hood, swift choppage behind the decks and deep, deep grooves. Like many of his all-vinyl heroes, he's also a treat to watch behind the decks

The up-and-comer had a hell of a year in 2023, from playing in Japan to going on his first European tour, and his momentum shows no signs of slowing. He debuted at New York's dweller festival this year and K9 Unit, his duo with Bloodhound, recently did a night with fellow hardgroove king Regal86. It's only a matter of time until 1morning gets to a festival or a club near you so until then, enjoy his RA Podcast for now. The mix unfortunately came with some less than stellar circumstances, as the records 1morning pulled were stolen from his car, and so instead this RA Podcast became a statement of resilience and creativity—and, in his words, "an outlet for my rage."

Taking us on a voyage for this week’s Crack mix is none other than Georgian-born artist, DJ and producer Salome. Hailing from Tsibli but now finding home in Berlin, over the past few years she has cemented herself as a major player in the world of electro music. 

As a resident of esteemed queer collective Herrensauna, Salome likes to play fast and hard. Her sets are known to take you on a trance with her own distinctive blend of electro, acid and techno.

Actress' highlight reel needs little exposition. Darren J. Cunningham has been a prominent yet inscrutable figure in electronic music since the late 2000s, typically flickering to life from the margins before receding into the shadows. Beloved albums like R.I.P., Karma & Desire and Splazsh may switch up the template, but the Actress hallmarks of haze, murk and showstopping beauty remain.

As you'll see in the interview below, he's a man of few words—that's in character for him. What's characteristic, too, is a taste for surprises. Ahead of the release of tenth studio album Statik on esteemed Norwegian label Smalltown Supersound next month, here's the "Дарен Дж. Australian producer and DJ Air Max ’97 is a powerhouse – when we invited him to deliver this mixtape we weren’t sure what to expect but an hour of exclusive original material wasn’t discussed.

The dynamic artist has risen to prominence over the past ten years, broadcasting a new school of experimental Bass and Electronics from Australia to the wider world with releases on the likes of Liminal Sounds and Timedance as well as via his own DECISIONS imprint.

More recently he has been working along a number of collaborators on a slightly more Hyper-Pop focussed sound but is in Bass music that he has his roots.

This mixtape features an eclectic array of Downtempo cuts, Trap inspired beats and deep moving basslines. It’s a wonderful insight into what looks set to be the next chapter for a hugely talented producer.

Driven by the complexities of love, SALOME’s latest release, «HACKER,» on HERRENSAUNA label, is a sonic explosion of vulnerability. The five-track EP features three original productions by SALOME and two remixes by Manni Dee and Umwelt, ready to short-circuit your system.

SALOME masterfully blends delicate melodies with thunderous breakbeats, mirroring the tumultuous nature of love. «Hacker» (A1) pulsates with the mantra «You hacked my mind,» a stark reminder that falling head over heels often means surrendering control. «Romance Malfunction» (A2) paints a vivid picture of the exhilarating highs and crashing lows of a rollercoaster relationship, ultimately leading to the introspective «Love Leaked» (A3).
Seeking diverse interpretations, SALOME enlisted two of her most admired artists, Manni Dee (B1) and Umwelt (B2), to deliver their unique takes on «Hacker,» further enriching the emotional landscape of the eponymous EP.
