The next package from the ever-busy MB Disco label is a whopping and wonderful collection of remixes of British/Polish duo The KDMS’s hit single ‘Part Time Lovers’. Originally released on Gomma, it has been fully licensed to the label who serve it up here in original form as well as with remixes from Leaves & Iron Curtis, Acid Washed, label boss Martin Brodin, Copycat, Peter Visti and Nirosta Steel.
 

The KDMS have proven themselves fine purveyors of disco funk and deep down boogie, turning the heads of press and punters alike in the process. Their single, ‘Part Time Lovers’ is a breezy and dreamy bit of instrument rich disco with dazzling synths and uplifting vocals and is ripe for remixing, so it’s no wonder MB Disco have decided to do just that.
 
Swedish nu-disco don and Eskimo label friend Copycat calls in all his influences from Italo to cosmic to Balearic to conjure up the dense and bristling sonic collage that is his arp-ridden remix. Its high energy but retails a soulful feel thanks to the vocals.

Flashworx - Futurisma

While the world is still reeling from Metalheadz boss Goldie’s incredible Fabriclive compilation CD, his world-renowned record label continues to unleash the finest drum & bass from some of the best artists the scene has to offer.

Every drum & bass fan knows the names of these two producers by now. Mikal’s inclusion on Metalheadz ‘Genesis EP vol. 2 & 3 has cemented his position as one of the hottest producers around. Whilst Break’s production credits stretch around the D&B block and down the street, having worked with the biggest and best in the scene for nearly a decade.

Here we see these two impeccable producers get together for the latest single on Goldie’s irrepressible imprint. As you’d expect, the standard of production and musicality is impossibly high and there’s no doubt that fans of the label will count this amongst the very best in its catalogue.

First up, Mikal goes solo with the euphorically tinged ‘Lifts Me Up’. Employing soaring vocals and rising house-inspired stabs, he offers a stunning take on dance floor friendly D&B, that doesn’t feel empty or forced. Instead you’re given an effortless ride into 170bpm+ territory that’s wrapped in an unbelievable groove and topped off with rolling breaks and a bassline that’s sure to worry any bassbin it’s played on. This is how to make dance floor music with soul.

Backing that up, Mikal teams up with D&B veteran, Break, to drop the incredible ‘Just A Game.’ A chilling intro gradually builds into a classic Headz’ style drop infused with tension and gut-wrenching bass notes. This one is smooth and understated, but no less powerful in a club. As Mikal & Break combine the best elements of both their styles, it will surely leave listeners begging for more collaborations from these two artists in the future.

Cross My Heart Hope to Die will change your perceptions of art and challenge your expectations of music. CMHHTD transcends musical boundaries - the music exists as just one part of a larger project, ever evolving. At its foundation, this collective balances tangible art with striking visuals and an all encompassing soundtrack to create a total experience - each element as important as the other.

The sound system is the spark caused by the collision of producers DJ Muggs and Andrew Kline. DJ Muggs is best known as a founding member of the multi platinum rap group, Cypress Hill, as well as the producer of such hits as Ice Cube’s “Check Yo Self” and House of Pain’s “Jump Around”. The Grammy nominated producer has created remixes for U2 and Depeche Mode, and collaborated with UK trip hop artist, Tricky, on the album Juxtapose.  Andrew Kline is a founding member and main songwriter of the Los Angeles based hardcore band, Strife. With a career spanning more than 20 years, Strife is heralded to be one of the most influential and defining hardcore bands of the 90’s. As a music producer, Andrew has worked with artists over a wide range of genres and has recently added video directing to his repertoire. Muggs and Kline, though from different musical backgrounds, share a love of a dark, cinematic music and the fusion of their talents creates something you would not expect. This sound is complemented by the ethereal songstress, Brevi, who elevates the tracks with her sexy and hauntingly beautiful vocals. The attentive listener may recognize her from tracks with such musical veterans as 50 Cent, Wiz Khalifa, Xzibit, Raekwon from the Wu Tang Clan, and more - though CMHHTD puts her in a spotlight like never before. Sean Bonner adds an additional, indefinable piece to what is already a bit of an enigma. Sean is a hacker and curator who commands a noteworthy online network. With a history in both fine art and music, he helps to shape the public face and feel of this project, and his involvement is sure to blur the lines between fans and collaborators, audience and participant.

The first traditional release from Cross My Heart Hope To Die, a self titled EP, will be available April 2nd on Alpha Pup Records, The interactive art side of this collective, however, has been prolific and manifesting itself on the streets for close to a year. Unsuspecting pedestrians around the world have been enjoying and participating in this project - sometimes without even knowing it. Inconspicuous art installations and street music boxes have been hidden in such cities as Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo, Rome, Belfast, Prague, and Vienna. CMHHTD wants to manipulate the way people find music; to bring back the thrill of discovery. Something sorely needed in a digital age where we are constantly bombarded with aural stimulation. 

Upcoming gallery exhibitions and a series of videos shot all over the world make it obvious that Cross My Heart Hope To Die is much more than just another musical project. Their actual scope escapes clear definition.

On the originals, the nu-italo duo provide us with upbeat vibes, flowing with smooth and beautiful synths and solos, really taking us back to that golden 80s era with convertible corvettes and soaking up the sun.

On Remix duty, we have the space disco master himself, FM Attack, providing us with that vintage cosmic sound, and really proving that love can be anywhere.

Lazercat &amp; Shawn Mac mix things up providing a deep, melodic sound with a touch of italo-prog to give it that refreshing sunny vibe.

Last but not least, Sare Havlicek &amp; Le Pimp provide us with a retro and upbeat sound, highlighting the original elements and adding a 70s style touch to it to seal the deal.
