Línia / Pedra / Paisatge / Solc has been finally released by the wonderful Whitelabrecs run by the super talented Harry Towell. You can already listen, purchase and support my latest work based on a very specific landscape.

This special limited edition release is in a run of 100 copies, modeled around the classic gatefold vinyl LP. It includes printed front, rear and inner sleeves featuring photography by myself, along with a card sleeve which houses a printed vinyl-effect CDr.

This is the outcome of my residency at Culla during Fall 2018 and marks the second collaboration with Double Bass player Rafa Ramos Sania. Album has been mastered by Pedro Pina. The whole thing has been possible thanks to Culla, mágica y medieval, Espai Nivi Collblanc, Mariano Poyatos Mora.

DR-65 : ECOVILLAGE - Arrived

Emil Holmstrom and Peter Wikstrom have been working on different music projects together since 2001, but in 2006 after a long journey around south asia they found some otherworldly inspiration to create The Ecovillage project.

Ecovillage say that the seventh album Arrived has by far been the most mentally challenging one to create, but also the work that could be the most rewarding to date on many levels.

Ecovillage feel that Arrived is the first album they have made that is a personal concept album that tell a certain story for the listener.

There was a hard time finishing up the album with lots of struggle at the end of creating it, but a mini tour in Los Angeles that was filled with tons of consolation, inspiring places and people to help finishing up the album.

Two collaborations from the album
really make a mark. Ludvig Cimbrelius aka Purl, IIuvia, Eternell etc. who also was on the mini tour in LA and Carlos Niño who they met at two occasions and kindly contributed with lots of energy and inspiration for the album. Also Gayle Ellett who is a constant collaborator and almost a third member of the band helped out on many planes.

Tom Scholefield follows last year's optimistic album Ways of Seeing, which saw Konx-om-Pax take things directly to the dancefloor, with Return to Cascada, revisiting the album and looking at chosen tracks in different ways, finding their core feeling and levelling them up in mood and innovation.

The EP starts with the sole guest remix, a fantastic moody spiralling take on Rez from man of the moment Skee Mask. This is followed by Return to Cascada, a complete retooling of the lead track from his Refresher EP, which gently mixes a meditative vocoder against chattering synths and an off-beat chirp, suspending the listener in a static mesh. Säule Acid is given some trippy tweaks and edits, giving it the feeling of early Warp bleep music injected with sunshine and dub. I'm for Real (Ambient Mix) loses the drums and gets lost in the spongy tones of its synths, with Nightwave's voice sent through the echo chamber. Caramel (Live Version) takes the original track back to tough dancefloor basics and we finish with Teufelsberg's icy synths and bleeps feeling like Wiley's eskibeats taken to an island paradise.

D'une couleur oubliée

Eighteen months on from his last solo release, Vancouver-based singer/composer Ian William Craig returns with a brilliant and powerfully emotive new album. His first for a long while to be centred around the piano - and also one of his most pared back - the record was made through an intense period of personal loss and environmental catastrophe. 
Recorded over two cataclysmic weeks in August 2018 in Kelowna, British Columbia, whilst the city was encircled by forest fires, it was captured from start to finish in the living room of a small house owned by his grandfather who was residing in a care facility across the street, having been afflicted with dementia for the past decade. Midway through Ian’s recording, his Grampa passed away, his lungs filled with fluid as a result of the smoke.

Performed using his voice, his grandfather's piano and shortwave radio set, several modified tape decks and a bunch of tape loops, Ian notes how events helped force the shape of the record and a tendency toward a less layered, more spartan expression. “Everything felt raw, I didn’t want there to be anywhere to hide in this record. My parents and I were cramped together in a small house while my grandfather slowly died across the street in a world filled with smoke, after all. So, in this record, more than most, there exist a great many things straight to tape without any effects because there really was no space.”

The Wine Dark Sea is Bissonnette’s fifth solo studio album. The album’s title is derived from the writings of Homer, where he oft referred to a rough and stormy sea as “wine-dark”. Homer’s descriptions of colour are devoid of any reference to the colour blue. And any suggested meaning in his description of the sea point to the colour red. This apparent contradiction has brought much speculation about the significance and understanding of colour in ancient Greece. Keeping with the motif of colour, track titles on the album are based on references from contemporary artists and their insights on colour, form and implied meaning.

The album represents a shift for Bissonnette’s work, moving from an exclusively synth-based series of explorations to a hybrid of electronic and acoustic methods. The result is a rolling and slow-moving tide of tones and undulations. The textures are in some passages soft and mollifying but fluently shift to moments of tension and unease. The Wine Dark Sea is an aural allegory to sound and colour and our tenuous understanding of abstract meaning.
