It's been less than a year since audiovisual artist Surgeons Girl made her debut via Bristol's Livity Sound, but the impact of that release is still ringing loudly in our ears. 

Inspired by synth pioneers and experimental composers like Suzanne Ciani, Laurel Halo and Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, from her home in the South Western city she's been composing ethereal and emotive compositions that sit somewhere between ambient and techno. Since her first Livity Sound outing, she's contributed to their 10 year anniversary compilation, as well as releasing her sophomore EP 'The Empress Moss' for London's Inside Out Records just last month.

Now, with clubland back in full swing, Surgeons Girl has just made the leap from the studio to the booth, with her first DJ gig kicking off a string of sets across the UK. Before you catch her IRL, on today's mix she gives you a glimpse into the sonics that inspire her as both a DJ and producer.

"The mix is a selection of recent favorite records, unreleased original tracks, edits, and upcoming releases on Modern Obscure Music. I work with a hybrid technique on the recording of mixes, I like to use parts of my DJ sets then edit them with strict coherence. I really enjoy playing at clubs and developing a curator role as I did with the PRSNT compilation, but also listening to all kinds of inspiring music so I tried to build a good balance showing at the same time devotion for experimental and dance music." - @pedro-vian

There's much to discover here, from the beautiful blends to the little details in the selections. Ali Tillett is a DJ, label manager and agency founder. He has worked tirelessly behind the scenes for many years helping to assist in the careers of some of the most pivotal dj's and artists of this generation.

However, he is also equally talented in his own right and he also knows more than a thing or two about records. This much is clear from the evolution of his record label Re:Warm - a reissue focussed imprint which has unearthed some forgotten gems from far and wide, breathing life into music which might never have resurfaced otherwise.

Re:Warm has released material by Margaret Wakeley, Winston Neale, The Hurricanes, Lucky Mereki and many more.

The recent release of a sprawling compilation which featured music from the likes of Ame, Bobby Lee and Richard Norris is perhaps the most influential offering from the label to date.

This mix showcases the versatility of Ali as a DJ and the variable excellence his label has become accustomed for.
