I am happy to present our first tape release by The Jaffa Kid as part of the brand new Digital Artefacts series. 

The series is an ode to the sound of the 90s, from Electro, IDM and Jungle to further different experimental stuff and sounds. The choice of tape as format seemed fitting for the aesthetic of the series. 

The first EP comes from UK based The Jaffa Kid (previously on 030303, Dischi Nottetempo, Gated Recordings and more) and is a solid mixture of Electro, Techno and beyond.

The one and only DMX Krew is back once again with yet another superb release, this time on the emerging and already exciting No Static/Automatic label. This time out he blends electro with bass, acid and techno and opens up with the squelchy 303s and prickly beats of 'Mutated Brain Process' before 'Electric Mutant' layers up whirring machines and jerking drum patterns. 'Non-Euclidean Coordinates' is a high-speed and physical workout with low end menace and the superb closer 'Depressed Mutant' might just be the best of the lot with its withering sci-fi motifs and alien sounds, kinetic electro beats and otherwordly vibes.

Dark Entries celebrates its 15th anniversary by returning to where it all started, our initial darkest entry: Eleven Pond’s masterpiece Bas Relief, an ultra-obscure album from 1986 that would become a definitive dark pop holy grail. Eleven Pond was James Tabbi (vocals, acoustic guitar), Jeff Gallea (drum machine, synthesizer, vocals), Jack Schaeffer (guitar) and Dan Brumley (synthesizer, samples, vocoder, melodica). They met in Rochester, NY, while attending art school, brought together by their shared love of 4AD and Factory Records. Taking cues from acts like Joy Division, Fad Gadget, and For Against, Eleven Pond’s infectious basslines, churning guitar riffs, and atmospheric synths will charm all fans of moody music. But what really makes Bas Relief shine is the timeless songwriting on classics like “Tear and Cinnamon”, “Portugal”, and the anthemic “Watching Trees.”
With only 500 copies in it’s initial release, Bas Relief resurfaces with a fresh remaster that corrects a pitch shift from previous reissues. Each copy is housed in a screen printed jacket, like the 1986 edition, and includes a lyric sheet, two postcards and a bookmark. Bas Relief is a true lost relic of the cold 80’s and an essential piece Dark Entries history.

Based in Athens for the most part, his signature sound is centered around intricate breakbeats, heavy low end and immersive percussion sequences.  

He is one of the driving forces behind FERMA record label which increasingly gains traction and momentum from heads across the world.

Back with a new chapter of our monthly podcast series. Today we are with a good friend of us from Amsterdam: Súya.

Súya has been into music since he was a kid. After playing the piano for several years, his passion for electronic music evolved. As a DJ he played all over the place in Amsterdam and Holland, including places like OT301, Bret, Red Light Radio, ADE, Doornroosje, and more recently in Guatemala and Mexico.
He's one of the guys behind the Klokwerk collective, hosting infamous, intimate parties in Amsterdam with some very cool guys like Estimulo, already our guest on Drone Time.

Today delivered exclusively for us a mix made of some some bleepy, breaky records he's been collecting recently with some tracks that he's been playing out a lot, especially some goodies from the early 90's.

We reached out to Amsterdam's Súya as we are big fans of his mixes, and asked if he would like to do one for Somewhere Down There. Thankfully, he agreed, and graced us with this wonderful mix.

When providing the mix, Súya said "When I think of Australia, beautiful nature and long drives come to mind. Reminding me of driving to parties when me and my friends were about 16 years old. We didn't have a driver's license, but we would drive for two hours to the other side of the Netherlands to go to a beach club in Bloemendaal. 

The first hour of the mix is inspired by driving to and being at a party with your friends. The second hour portrays a kind of 'late night driving' vibe while driving home, still being in the mood."
