I've received a number of messages in recent weeks regarding fellow SoundCloud users having their remixes of Somebody That I Used To Know removed from SoundCloud due to copyright infringement. My personal position is that I don't try to block unofficial remixes posted for online streaming providing they're posted for purely creative reasons and are not exploited commercially (eg: monetized on YouTube).

Under current laws the formal consent of the label and publisher/s is required for any use along these lines however, and as much as I would like to help everyone out to attain this consent, there are simply too many requests relating to remixes of this particular song and too many rights holders involved for me or my reps to assist with Soundcloud keeping them up.

Soaring freely above genres, occasionally diving into one or the other, Malin Dahlström and Gustaf Karlöf make music together as Niki & The Dove. The foundation for the collaboration is a profound love and respect for music that gives both members a hunger for the exploration of new music.

Malin and Gustaf was first brought together in Gothenburg where they played together in different bands before forming Niki & The Dove in 2010 and releasing the debut single “DJ, Ease My Mind”. As a song that tells the story of what a simple pop track can do to a human, it was a fitting introduction to the band’s outlook on the beauty of music. The songs were there before the band united, and what happened after the formation seemed like the logical progression.

The following full length album, Instinct, came one year later and consisted of chosen parts from the EP:s and previously unreleased tunes that landed Niki & The Dove a nomination for the prestigious BBC Sound of 2012.

Four years after Instinct another Niki & The Dove album was released. Under the title Everybody’s Heart Is Broken Now, thirteen pop songs are gathered, taking off from a song writing tradition where melody and the craft is focused upon. Among the tracks are the singles “Play It On My Radio” and “So Much It Hurts”, two songs that bring to mind yearning eyes meeting across a dark dance floor. As inspiration for the sound, Malin and Gustaf kept certain catchwords in mind during the creation of the record. Two of those were “Dance Romance” and “Bladerunner Disco”, fitting nicely onto the romantically futuristic album. Starting with one foot in days passed Niki & The Dove aspire to step into the future, holding the music they love near to them wherever they may go. The finished product takes what started with “DJ, Ease My Mind” in 2010 a step forward. If Instinct covered everything that happened before the formation of Niki & The Dove, Everybody´s Heart Is Broken Now is a divination regarding what is yet to come.

Maruja Retana once began a career as a psychologist, but quickly realized music was her real passion in life. Now, as a singer/songwriter, she loves to do it all: writing music and lyrics, recording, producing vocals and singing her heart out on stage.

She signed a management and publishing deal with Sony/ATV in 2011, and has since been writing, recording, and performing non-stop all over the world, always sharing her passion and talent for infectious and enchanting pop music with influences of EDM, urban, and rock music.

Maruja has worked with several top producers, DJ’s and songwriters such as Jef Martens (Will.I.Am, Britney Spears) Jorgen Eloffson (Kelly Clarkson), Paul Oakenfold, Guy Chambers (Robbie Williams), Marcus Killian (of Flo Rida’s ‘Blow My Whistle’), Fedde Le Grand, and Tearce Kizzo (of Afrojack’s ‘Can’t stop me’), to name a few. She is frequently praised for her international sound, and her dreamy, yet soulful vocals.

A true multi-talent, her vocal recording and editing skills are rivaled only by full-time engineers, and she’s one of the very few artists that is as intimately knowledgable and proficient at producing vocals as well as performing them. Her skills in this area are so sought after that she has coached, engineered and produced entire vocal arrangements for artists such as: Rochelle, Yes-R, Keet, Antoniette Costa, and Brett (The Voice Kids).

Maruja’s first single ’Right through me’, a catchy and melodic dance pop record, was released worldwide by Spinnin’ Records in November 2011, after it got over 600k views on YouTube within a month, without any promotion. 2013 saw her appear on Dutch national radio with her collaboration with Marco V – ‘Waiting’, charting high in the ‘tip parade’. In addition, she wrote and performed the winning song for ‘Join The Beat’, which was on National Dutch Television. Her song ‘Electric Stars’ was chosen for a Heineken campaign in Ibiza, and the new remix with ultra producer Basto will once again be the main theme for an international Heineken Champion’s League campaign in 2014.

Her ultimate goal is to connect with her audience on every level, and to make music that not only stays up to date with the current trends, but that has a timeless quality to it that rises above and beyond typical pop.

John and Gia were born in The Hague, Netherlands. While they were growing up the kitchen was their home studio, and was well equipped with drums, a piano and a guitar. There was always music in the house. After High School they both knew they had to make music a career choice, though eventually they chose different music schools, Gia went to the Rock Academy and John to an Audio Engineering School, the SAE in Amsterdam.
Gia took the artist name 'Gia Mellish' and as an singer/songwriter has released many house records on labels such as Ministry of Sound, Hed Kendi, and with many producers including Sébastien Léger and Alan Braxe. She has perfomed in clubs all over the world.
John started producing pop tracks and always kept his guitar as the main element in his music.
Gia moved to London in 2009 to work with different producers and started a DJ career, singing and DJ-ing simultaneously, which added an extra dimension to her music repertoire. Still, she missed an authentic aspect in her music, and so finally after years of writing and working with producers, John and Gia decided to combine forces and get back to the songwriting they enjoyed so much when they were young. But now adding electronic beats and sounds to their music.
They choose the name DROOOM which comes from the Dutch word DROOOM, meaning dream.
DROOOM is about two free-spirited musicians. They write music without restriction or following any rules, giving their imaginations full rein. Their music can best be described as an eclectic mix of flamboyant pop with heavily filtered acoustic beats, coupled with guitars, and endless fantasy.
