Verbos HO -compiled-

Francis a exercé pendant près de 30 ans un métier qui génère des images fortes. Qui prolonge la vie. Avec la courbure complexe de ses formes. Avec ses mouvements et ses inerties, ses violences et ses douceurs. Un métier qui crée et laisse des traces. En laissera-t-il lui, alors qu’il s’apprête à prendre sa retraite ?

On ne sait pas ce que la vie nous réserve. On ne peut pas dire qui on deviendra demain. Souvent, des choses arrivent. Des signes que l’on perçoit. Des flashs, des traces qui nous emmènent sur un chemin. Qui bouleversent nos certitudes, nos projections dans le futur. C’est l’histoire de Francis.

sine waves ….. from the verbos harmonic oscillator

with individual control inputs for 8 harmonic sine waves.. not to mention individual outputs and various spread and tilt controls..

this is just the tip of the iceberg. a very simple demonstration of some of the evolving patterns that can be created.

the verbos is being modulated by 5 LFOs.

continuing the idea of leaving the synth patched overnight and using it again the same way the next time…. this sound is set up the same way as the previous.. just with different settings, different LFOs, etc.

i think i'm approaching what looks like a really effective little live rig…

this is the verbos harmonic oscillator again controlled by 5 LFOs.. some filtering and the phonogene.

June 17, 2014 (like yesterday, but different / verbos harmonic oscillator)

i set out to do something simple tonight and it worked well and quickly. a moskwa sequencer triggering a circuit abbey adsr which controls the main level of an intellijel linix vca.

the primary sound source is the verbos harmonic oscillator whose various sine waves are being controlled by 5 LFOs from an intellijel dr. octature ii. there's an oscillator layer, too, the more shimmering high sound, from an intellijel shapeshifter.

the pitches being sent from the moskwa sequencer are being quantized by an intellijel uScale and the whole mix is going through a synthrotek eko module and finally a reverb on an eventide h3000.

with the right notes and a bit more tweaking on the sound this could be a pretty good foundation.

Modular impro with the Verbos Harmonic Oscillator. The individual sine outputs are drived by the Verbos Voltage Multistage gates.  As often, some Harvestman Bionic Lester and Malgorithm in this one.

a quick test of the nlc dp filter (headphones recommended):

a bunch of chopped up noodles from a doepfer system stuck inside a squid salmple, the mix of which is randomly addressed, reduced, and crushed, then sent to the dpf, and plays alongside a main sine noodle from an a-143-9. the diode half of the dpf has a high-ish q setting (which is kinda tame compared to other filters) and a low cut off, and later is modulated by a low rate of digital noise from the a-117 and a sine lfo from a second a-143-9. the transistor side (which has no input and is internally fed by the diode side via photo-couplers) has a maxed out q  and an even lower cut off, and its cv2 is randomly assigned the 2 oscillators section from the a-117 808 source via a switch, which gives it that wild feedback sound. the output of the dpf is monitored from the sum output, and a tiny bit of reverb is added in ableton.

this filter is very  touchy, and depending on how its built, can have a very narrow range on control (as mine does,) and the transistor ladder only really gets fired up if the diode ladder is hot enough (mine uses MCT9001 photo-couplers,) so you can get all these really interesting 'edge of breakup' sounds, to use the dirt-pedal/guitar amp parlance of the day...and its quite nice if you can dial it in, but it does takes some patience.

it also gets *real* bonkers when you start swapping the q path and monitoring different outputs...but i haven't really figured out how to bend any of that to my will yet...
