Made By Pete returns to Crosstown Rebels as he links up with Zoe Kypri for the anthemic ‘Horizon Red’.

Born and raised in London, DJ and producer Made By Pete has flourished in recent years, making appearances  around the globe from Set Underground (Tulum) and fabric (London) to Off Week (Barcelona) and beyond. Gaining  plaudits from leading names in Damian Lazarus, Keinemusik and Pete Tong, to name just a few, the UK talent has  crafted a string of stand-out releases via the likes of Flying Circus, RADIANT and Crosstown Rebels. Having first  touched down on the imprint in 2018 alongside Jem Cooke for ‘So Long’, with two further appearances since, he  opens the label’s 2023 schedule alongside R&B, jazz and Neo-soul singer/songwriter Zoe Kypri for the gripping  sonics of ‘Horizon Red’ - with the track set to be remixed by label boss Damian Lazarus in the coming weeks. 

“We caught each other’s attention whilst playing sets at Tobacco Dock in London, and the admiration was  mutual. We knew we wanted to create something that evoked feelings of the afterglow. That dissonant  feeling at sunset when the horizon is so fiercely beautiful, yet the inevitability of the day falling behind the  mountains is near. A dynamic track guided by rich chords, rolling organic percussion and Kypri’s powerful yet graceful vocals,  ‘Horizon Red’ is a euphoric and captivating journey balancing energetic builds with deeper moments, while Pete’s Dub strips things back as spiralling synths and hazy atmospheres take hold for a late-night trip.

Saraga heads Around The Sun on this escapist new EP for Guy Gerber's revered Rumors label. Saraga is an artist based in Tel Aviv and who releases on esteemed labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Robsoul Recordings, Nervous & Body Parts. He has a well crafted and emotive sound rich in lush synth work. 

Clarity In Motion opens with thinking synth modulations and a heartfelt female vocal. The drums are warm and lock you in for a sublime ride. Around The Sun (Run It) brings an immersive vocal over deep house drums. The track is playful, with steamy lyrics and a smattering of percussion next to smeared, expansive cosmic pads. On Sin City, things take a darker tech house twist with snappy drums and hits and a monologue adding tension. Los Ojos Azules closes out with something of a humid Latin vibe - the drums roll, the percussion is characterful and vocals tease and please. 

These are four hugely original tracks from this ever more essential artist.

To start our first release of the year, Mr Morek delights us  with Hungry, a  hypnotic and fresh masterpiece. A song that seeks the perfection of forms, where nothing is missing and nothing is superfluous. Italian maestro  Malandra  Jr. brings the original song to a darker side, with kinetic atmospheres that captivate from beginning to end. That Good is another example of perfect simplicity that is hard to get out of your head once you have heard it, with an amazing, infinite break perfectly executed, its groove is so well rounded that it could make you dance for hours. Last but not least we have Everyone, another song with the artist's signature.  Trippy voices and alive synth leads all around, to make your mind travel without moving from the place.

During a typhoon party on the rugged, volcanic island of Jeju in South Korea, three strangers met by a twist of fate. Island Hill (Al, Barry and Dibby) realised that whilst their musical backgrounds may be wildly contrasting, something really gelled between them. A shared love of vintage synths, blues guitar and psychedelic electronic music has produced Strangers in Paradise - their forthcoming album, released 10th March 2023 on John Digweed’s Bedrock Records. The album is a musical snapshot of their time together on Jeju and is widely tipped as one to watch this year.

 

Ahead of their hotly anticipated album, Island Hill have enlisted the amazing Tel-Aviv based Electronic/Indie duo Red Axes on remix duties for their debut single, Killer of Fate and it’s a match made in heaven.

 

Killer of Fate (Red Axes Remix) is released on 10th February, ahead of Island Hill’s forthcoming album Strangers in Paradise. Opening with a driving bassline, shakers and vintage synths, Killer of Fate (Red Axes Remix) breaks briefly into a soulful blues/folk vocal, then continues with the brooding energy of an oncoming typhoon. You can feel that something is coming. That something is the most dreamy, pacific blues riff, with joyous, psychedelic chords ringing out underneath, making you feel like the storm has passed and you are now bathing in the beautiful pacific island sunlight.

 

Island Hill have produced one of the freshest, most original sounds for decades, from a melting pot of backgrounds and ideas in the studio. It’s no wonder that the electronic music legend John Digweed snapped them up for his label, Bedrock and knew how well Red Axes would remix this incredible track. They were only too happy to be offered a remix from “one of the founding fathers of electronic music.”

 

John Digweed said of the Red Axes’ remix: "I’ve been a big fan for a long time now and when we were discussing remixes for Killer of Fate by Island Hill, I thought they would be perfect to remix it and they’ve done such a great job with it."

Their music composition "Vision Widened" is builded around a very nice combination between a sweet chords progression and a stunning vocal melody creating a charming atmosphere.

Dodi Palese and Phunkadelica remix turns the track into a proper dancefloor heater by adding a killer drum and bass sequence and a remarkable synth hook.

We’re happy to announce to familiar faces back to the mothership: Chloe Raunet aka C.A.R. has been a long time friend and made her first appearance on the label with Maceo Plex on “Mirror Me”. Dj and producer extraordinaire Patrice Bäumel certainly doesn’t need much introduction. “Four Down” shows the duo in a rowdy mood. There’s a very welcome punk-ish attitude to the song that is set to brush today’s polished dancefloors against the grain. Here’s what C.A.R. has to say in her own words: “Some collaborations are meant to be. I first met Patrice at Trouw over a decade ago and we instantly hit it off. When he sent me this idea back in lockdown, it wasn’t something I could come up with musically, but words came easy and the song wrote itself. Bouncing ideas back and forth through the ether doesn’t always work, but when you just get each other, distance doesn’t matter and stepping outside your comfort zone can bring about the best, most fun and spot-on results!”

Tal Fussman strides forward with ‘Back up’, the sophomore release on his own Survival Tactics imprint, revealing yet another glimpse at his anticipated debut album. Much like with predecessor ‘Talk To Me’, the Israel-born, Berlin-based producer showcases a masterful hand at crafting powerful club tracks that are both physically moving and rich in heady atmospheres.
Thus, Fussman’s mission of creating crowd-entrancing moments of togetherness is firmly in focus here: Arranged around a deceptively simple interplay of perfectly balanced elements, ‘Back Up’ relentlessly propels itself forward by way of its warm wooden punch, staccato chants and elastic neon synths. The devil is in the details, however, and Fussman weaves in plenty of subtle nuances by way of his intricate sound design, letting this floor-shaker unfold towards its climax like a flower in bloom.

A flock of birds took flight across the sky, dipping and weaving in unison until they were out of sight beyond the cliffs. The terrain was bold and colourful; huge towering green trees shot up into the heavens, below a flowing stream of clear blue water meandered through various species of flowers and chattering insects. The sheer expanse of this landscape took his breath away, it was a far cry from the cityscapes he knew so well. It remained untouched by human hands, not tampered with for commercial gain - here nature was in charge. 

Up next on non-profit label Sinchi it's a close member of the collective's family, Hary Shanthi. Marking his second release on the label, following 2021's Sivapuranam (​ச​ி​வ​ப​ு​ர​ா​ண​ம​்​), this new single 'Urumi' is another window into the psyche of a deep thinking, technically skilled producer. The slowly unfurling opus, which is peppered with hypnotic acid lines, synth leads and percussion is a homage to his Indian culture and '"the non-dualistic nature" of Kashmir Shaivism, a philosophical system that emerged in India around the 12th Century'. It comes complete with remixes from MR TC and Tushen Raï and, as always, all money from sales will be donated to the Sinchi Foundation which supports indigenous people across the world.

The new instance of the label’s series delivers 4 dance tracks from every corner of the wide club spectrum, each with its driving force.

The first track comes from Mystery Affair who has teamed up with Leonor for Get Fckd, an hypnotic bassline, swinged spaced elements, and vocals which make this song an never ending trance. For the second installment, the mysterious duo from Miami called Legs Benedict delivers a mushroom indie anthem called “Pele Mele” great for a mindfulness dance. Straight from Europe, the mastermind Franz Scala hands over an italo disco dreamy force for the comp the way only he can do it. Last but not least Peters & Pujol debut on the label induce us through middle eastern elements and invite us to indulge into a never ending ritual which rounds up nicely this third volume for the dancefloor.
