"The influence and presence of trap and rap in dance/experimental is obviously massive, and the lines between genres are more blurred than ever. HAJJ, however, says this is a recent thing; “I find that the electronic scene in France is just starting to encourage the integration of this culture. Not so long ago people insulted me when I played rap/trap in my sets.”

The underpinning idea for this compilation brought electronic producers not explicitly of that world to unpick whatever boundaries remain and contribute tracks for a mixtape – while a few of the artists are more obviously ready to “play the game” and already make music which exists pretty close to this horizon, this has been a challenge to think creatively for a few of the other artists invited."

UNISON is the debut album from PARAADISO, a duo composed of musician TSVI and audio-visual artist Seven Orbits.

Inspired by Italian folk music, noise, ancient choral acoustic compositions, rituals and their functions, the album focuses on conveying a sense similar to those felt in ancient gatherings and ceremonies where the collective physical experience meant heightened stimulation at both the individual level and collective level.

Contrary to individual experience, collective experience is necessarily rooted in (shared) patterns of action and behavior; it has been studied that the sense of a joint consciousness emerges from such patterns of action and a sense of ''relatedness' is developed between members of the group; relatedness is a form of shared identity, which in turn can transform intragroup social relations and future re-Action. Experiences of synchrony and collective emotion induce in individuals a shift between two parallel cognitive “modes”, from the individual to the communal, generating feelings of openness, inclusion, and prosociality and sometimes even dissolution of the self-other distinction.

All human life and all human interaction are profoundly social: our everyday lives do not take place in isolation but constantly require our engagement with other people. The artists unknowingly sought these qualities emerging during the creation of the work as isolation and disconnection raised dramatically over the past two years and have created a piece in response to that which aims to be performed and experienced in a live context as an audio - visual experience.

A website devoted to miracles. The crush of people. Paranoid reports about an event that no one seems to have experienced personally. ‘El Milagro’ is a sound fiction that suits itself to a particular contemporary atmosphere of turmoil and disaster. Faced with the onslaught of alarms and unrecognisable noises, a worker goes to a small southern village to investigate a strange incident: the villagers refuse to return the body of a deceased Professor, claiming he is still alive. This sonic fiction delves into the dark side of miracles, situations that often go beyond the religious aspects of rituals or cults: a broken lift, old devices returning to reclaim their place, a remote coincidence in the codes you received in an email last summer. The album’s atmospheres change as the listening goes: the hidden arrival to a village with a secret, the tragic ode to a haunted hunter, the drug-addicted and mafia-like paranoia of hotels full of shiny mojitos served to soulless tourists, an explosion in a casino, a hysterical preacher at the gates of a fast food restaurant...

‘El Milagro’ explores a kind of radio sonority that jumps from one climate to another with the aim of showing a fragmented landscape. Sonically the music is made with recorded guitars, vocals, sampling, drum machines, processed virtual instruments, etc... The production and composition process is very varied.

Adios Adios is an audiovisual and music producer, located in Valencia, Spain. His first EP ‘For All To Eat (F.A.T.E)’ was released on Midlife Music. Recently, he released a musical video titled S.C.R.A.P.S on P.I.G.S which is linked to the fictional world of ‘El Milagro’. Also, he has collaborated with artists such as Concrete Fantasies, Otro, Pup Puppy, and is a member of experimental-music collective Dominio.

Timesaver is Xen Model’s third full length album and second release on the Causal Chain imprint. The 9-track LP stays true to the duo’s eccentric sound while delving into the introspective side of their productions. Club-focused head nodders “Pin Cycle”, “Face Forward”, and “Controller” accompany key tracks like “Arm’s Edge Reach” and “Grip Dial”, which channel the duo’s affinity for ambient music. “A Bright Star” spotlights a catchy guitar hook and features close collaborator 11ai. Xen Model’s signature play on halftime structure is engaged in bass-heavy cuts “Ripstream” and “Local Group”. The album comes to a close with a radio edit of their previously released track “Lurch”, which clusters the duo’s myriad styles and influences in an encapsulating statement of the Xen Model sound.

In 2022 during the great plaque, work began compiling ‘Weld’ a 17 track chef-d'œuvre featuring 16 brand new MC and collaborators, a worldwide vocalist arsenal celebrating Kinlaw’s scope as a producer and a bedrock for multilingual messaging.

“Global noise-rap punktronics from a global guest cast of MCs and vocalists from Bristol to Togo, Uganda to Palestine - steeped in the mystery and folklore of a small town in Dorset, England. Weld is the defining statement of the Kinlaw universe“

Weld was assembled with 30 dubs, chats at the pub and a few emails. Some artist like Operation Egodeath, Robin Stewart (of Giant Swan infame), Dali de Saint Paul, Kelan, D Ham are confirmed members of the shadowy Avon Terror Corps shadowy, Ceramics alumni or Bristol underground friends like Birthmark or Danny Nedelko (of Heavy Lungs / IDLES infamy). At its core Weld is a celebration of this strong local scene - in Kinlaw’s world, local is global - through internet or psychic projection, we are all one. The link-up with Jordan’s premiere avant garde outlet Drowned By Locals is an important expression of this no-borders attitude - with them providing a jumping point to a wealth of vocal talent from the Middle East and beyond. 

Opening with Abdel Ja7eem Hafeth wrenching cover of Johnny Thunders -Society Makes me sad, sung in arabic. After the dust settles, things begin as they intend to go on with the belter Zazuka featuring Ugandan MC, Activist and Nyege Nyege hero Ecko Bazz. Effected Signaller features Togolese No Corner / Rwdfwd vocalist Yao Bobby. In the second part of WELD, Tunisian Toxic Club soldiers Flow Tha Key and Dryveins bring their respective mellow and doom performances in Kinchasa and Too Many Signals; followed later by Palestinian MC MrF13’s Strategically Demorphed, staving off total collapse in an isolated vault which is falling apart; a Sisyphean journey to madness. In ملوك الشغب , Kafr El Dauwar singer, composer and songwriter Ibrahim X brings the mixtape’s energy to an unexpected turn with his famous full blown Egyptian wedding aesthetics, only to be grounded towards the end by Elvin Brandhi’s Speech Plasticity.

Accompanying the album are a collection of cards, the origins, motive & gameplay is still unknown. Story has it they were originally discovered in the flooded basement of Castlemeadesque, Barclays House in Poole, Dorset. Described by one google user as “Mirroring Corfe Castle in Modern Brutalist style.” and also home to peregrine falcons.  The offices were abandoned two years ago, and the cards, in 3 sets of five, were recovered by one of the bank employees. Masterley restored for Weld by Winchester Picture Corps.
