Solo artist Astrid Zeman creates multi-layered compositions using loop pedal, guitar, piano and her voice. Astrid is able to capture the full-range of her instruments by layering melodies, harmonies, harmonics and percussive elements, so that it is not unusual to hear seven or more voices in a single tune. Starting with simple riffs and repetitive patterns, complex structures are gradually built until they swell into choral waves, buoying wistful melodies. Heavily influenced by loop artists such as Andrew Bird and with a voice often compared to Joni Mitchell, Astrid’s music infuses soprano tones into richly layered strings and textures. Her performances are all created live with nothing pre-recorded, making her looping tracks visually as well as aurally engaging.
