5 Mag Premiere - Beloved techno producer and DJ @noncompliant1 has announced the release of Momentum Shift, the debut EP from her new label Giant Arm, out September 7 2023.

Giant Arm is designed to be a showcase for Noncompliant's "signature style of raw, uncompromising techno." Momentum Shift features four tracks that tick every box on that checklist — the rhythmic, radical and raw sound of Midwest techno crafted by one of our most essential artists. 

5 Mag is premiering the lead track from Momentum Shift. "Symptom Onset," like many Noncompliant tracks, doesn't "start" as much as it "warms up," like a great thermal engine gradually filling the room with heat, frenzy, sound and fury. Give it a listen and some love if you like it 👏

🎙 Noncompliant - Raised in small-town Indiana on a musical diet of 80s synth pop and punk rock, Noncompliant soon found barnyard raves and warehouse techno parties and (as DJ Shiva) quickly became a fixture of the fabled 90s Midwest USA rave scene. Now, almost three decades and a name change later, she is at the top of her techno game. She was recognized as one of Mixmag's Top 20 Breakthrough DJs in 2017 and has performed at renowned venues like Berghain and Tresor in Berlin, Smartbar in Chicago, and DeSchool in Amsterdam. She has also appeared at festivals such as Unsound and Movement Detroit.  Noncompliant's releases and remixes on labels like Valence, Flash, Outerworld, and Dark Entries have made waves in the global music scene, with her track "Women's Work" even landing on Fiedel's official Berghain 08 mix and his label Fiedeltwo. In 2023, she is launching her own label called Giant Arm, which features her signature style of raw, uncompromising techno.

Welcome to DRR Podcast 105, After a short Hiatus, this week we are back with a bang and delighted to welcome Keith Anderson to the DRR mothership, with a lush mix to showcase his sound.

DJ and Timeline Music UK cofounder, Keith Anderson, was brought up the "good way" exposed to the timeless quality of Electro in the late 1980’s. Fascinated by this enigmatic sound, he bought his first two Electro 12"s; Herbie Hancock "Rocket" and Newcleus "Jam on it". This only solidified his love for Electro and he ended up buying all the classic tracks on 12inch circa 1986 and 1987.

 

1988-1989 would see Keith getting into the fresh worlds of Acid House and Techno. The love was there as it was with Electro. Following the inspiration, Keith frequented the Soul 2 Soul Shop in London, eventually buying ' The Dance' by Derrick May. It was during these years that Keith set out to shift the gears into DJing.

 

From the DJ perspective, Keith's main objective is to bring the power to a mix; selecting tracks that work well together to create a powerful blend, to allow the creation of a story throughout. As Keith puts it, a "good DJ is about mixing also selecting good music” ...

Keith's history as a live DJ goes back to Eurobeat 2000 at Frankie D's legendary club. It was here that his talent was recognised.

 

He would go on to play at some of the biggest clubs in London including; The End, Ultimate Base Hardware, and Analogue City to name a few. In addition, Keith has spun the wax alongside Claude Young, Derrick May, and DJ Rush, Dave Angel. Remaining a dedicated purveyor to the underground, he is the daily force behind Timeline Music & Electronic Convergence.

𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒆: Carré & Danny Goliger - Up Too Late (Konduku Remix) [FAW004]

After completing another whirlwind mission of fast-not-hard righteousness, the Fast At Work crew returned home to reunite around their first chosen matriarch, who arrived with a cherished friend of the family in tow. Ideating a standout and full circle return to the ethos contained in the original FAW alien disc, Carré embarked alongside Danny Goliger not with the intent to craft a particular “sound,” but driven by the pursuit of discovery. Navigating through textured atmospheres, rhythmic explorations, and immersive landscapes, they allowed their gospel to unfold naturally—an organic process shaped by curiosity and intuition.
Each track was born from sampling its predecessor, creating a recursive dialogue that guided the creative flow and speaks to the spirit of DIY collaboration always present in FAW mantra. A commitment to a tension-building groove in ‘Up Too Late’, the warped dub throughlines of ‘Tricky One’, the intricate, delicate uptempo delight that is ‘Exit Plan,’ and the bridge between all four tracks ‘Don’t Keep Me In Suspense’ — each reflect different moments in this heli-journey. An expert in textural exploration, Konduku brought out the true hypnotic potential of the title track. Their influences ripple outward, yet the sound remains inherently theirs—fluid, unbound by singular genre or label.
