The text is taken from Matthew 5:7-9 (the Beatitudes) in both English and Latin. The message of the song is a call for peace. “We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams.” The iconic poem We Are the Music Makers by Arthur O'Shaughnessy embodies the spirit of who we are as people and our expression through music. This setting of his poem has two distinct parts: a fast, rhythmic and joyous section and a slow, introspective and somber section. With the addition of a semi chorus, this work allows a small group of singers to add color and texture and act as an independent voice within the full chorus. This piece makes a wonderful opener or closer for your program.

Tim Brent is a musician whose work is "beautiful, awe-inspiring and strikingly original" (Arts Atlanta). The recipient of 9 DownBeat Magazine awards as a vocal jazz educator, pianist, arranger and performer, he is currently the visiting assistant professor of popular music studies at Westminster College of the Arts. Tim is active as a composer and performer and works regularly as a vocalist and pianist. He has performed and/or recorded with such names as, Bobby McFerrin, Mel Torme, Ingrid Jensen, Brian Lynch, Ed Calle, Dick Oatts as well as latin Grammy award-winner Obie Bermudez.
