this song was interesting
i havent been able to use my mic or the rest of my studio except logic for months now, and a lot of very intense things happened to me during that time period.  so me and a friend were fucking around on guitar, and i ended up recording the main riff on voicememo and importing it into logic, beginning a three day, no sleep, bender of mixing to see if i could get a decent song out of just an iphone and logic.  I sent it out to cole parrish, who supplied her usual impeccable voice, and then went apeshit trying to get this to sound like a song.  this is the result.  i dont sing, i dont do singer songwriter, i don't record on an iphone, and yet here it it.  something totally different

DRUG - 40 DEEP [NEW TRACK] (prod. by Flamingosis)

The first official release off my upcoming solo LP called ROME.  This was written write as the lock down started, and features a good friend of mine (who must remain nameless) singing a beautiful, gospel inspired hook.  He recently got signed so I can't say who it is, but he means the world to me and I'm so excited to share this track with you.  This is one of 8 songs on the album that all pushed me into new territory, whether singing, experimental flow, vibe, etc.  And this LP is one of FOUR albums I'll be releasing this summer.

Don't virtue signal, don't ask how you can help, don't try to make the issue about you, and don't get in the way - just recognize that a line has been drawn in the sand between our police and our fellow black Americans, and unless your black, the best thing you can do is make it clear you stand with them, and support black businesses, journalists, banks, etc.  Also, call your congressman and demand swift justice for the senseless police murders that have happened - Breanna Taylor and George Floyd are just the most recent, but this is the real epidemic of hatred, and love, education, and using your privilege to support our brothers and sisters currently terrified for their own lives and the lives of their children - these are the best things to really affect change.  #endrant #icantbreathe

I'm a first generation mixed Asian American.  I've been called 'ambiguously racial', 'generic brown', 'mexican', 'terrorist', and 'sand n*gger' more times than I can count.  No one ever gets my race right when they're trying to cut me down.  My little sisters are from Guatemala.  My older siblings are half Jewish, half Indian.  I spent most of my childhood with the white side of my family, and as a result I often don't know what my place is - especially in the ongoing 'conversation' about race in this country.  In the past, I've laughed and made space for my friends to make racist jokes at my expense because I figure that I can - that it doesn't bother me, and ultimately it's benign.  This is not the same country I remember then - or at least, it feels worse.  Donald Trump the president is one thing, and I have many many thoughts on him that have ultimately changed alot of my political ideas.  But Donald Trump the figurehead is the spark that lights the fire that empowers closeted racists to step out, to speak out, to scream out slurs, to throw fists and rocks and kicks, to fire their modified AR's and to drive vehicles into crowds.  I firmly believe the police have always treated minorities like enemy combatants on our homeland - I dont think this has gotten worse just because its being recorded more.  But the police drew a line in the sand, and I know EXACTLY where I stand now.  I stand on the side my sisters will stand on, that my spiritual brothers and sisters stand on, and die on, on an all too frequent basis.  

The audio at the end of this track comes from the protest in Lexington last night.  George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.  Say their names - before the list gets too long for us to remember.
