Playa Venao is one of my favorite places to play music in the whole world, maybe my favorite after Burning Man... 
This opportunity I had to play the soundtrack for one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen, allowed me to be soft, vulnerable and show a different side of myself. 
There was no need to push the vibe, no need to push the tempo, we could all just be together and feel... 
I hope you'll like this side of me,

Today we travel around the world – Dutch producer El Mundo prepared a phenomenal Macuá for you, the Nicaraguan national drink that is named after a tropical bird. 

DJing and producing for more than 13 years, El Mundo’s music goes through the ears straight into the heart. He first got on international radars as one half of the duo with Satori, also producer and DJ also from the Netherlands.  

In 2012 El Mundo took the solo path again which led him to deeper and more mature sounds. Today he looks back on releases on imprints like Bondage Music, Get Physical, Underyourskin Records, Heinz Music and is touring around the world. 
 
As a philosophical and spiritual individual, El Mundo sees music and dancing as something worldly. He feels connected to every individual on this planet, so does he love music from all over the world. That’s why he calls himself „El Mundo“.  

If you feel the tingles when listening to his Macuá, you’ll know what he means by „connection“. We totally feel you Pim, thank you!

If you’re like most people (including ourselves) you may have over-indulged a little over the Easter long weekend. Instead of eating just some of the chocolate eggs, you ate all of them! And the chocolate bunnies... 

Your plan now is to start your strict new diet and to go the gym five times this week and burn off all the extra calories. Or, you hit the play button, listen to our next Schirmchendrink episode „Red Eye“ by PHCK and calories will take care of themselves! 

PHCK, a talented trio consisting of Paul Hoffer, Christ Kusterer and Stefan Kling, has its origins in the creative dark cosmos of Germany’s Black Forest.  

Chris as DJ and Paul as a classical musician started creating music together in late 2013. Stefan, a singer a musical allrounder, joined the project in 2017 after the first successful releases on Chapter 24 Recordings, Connaisseur Recordings and All Day I Dream. 

PHCK’s music is a transformation of their own emotions; a reflection of sensitivity - of love, hope, grief, reflectiveness and sometimes a cold and dark emptiness.  

We have heard they are working on their first album to be released maybe this year...we can only hope this is true as we always want more of PHCK’s deeper shades and emotive electronic music! What a treat <3

Welcome back to the Magician On Duty Journey Series!

On this week's editions we welcome @Subcora

Originally from Istanbul and currently based in Liverpool, Subcora is an academic day time, and a music alchemist/DJ night time. After years of being involved in music through different roles, i.e., as a singer, music writer and interview editor, she is now mostly focusing on DJing. She is keen on harmonising mostly melodic, instrumentally rich songs with a subtle groove, within different genres of house and different modes. 

Recently she joined Liverpool based DJ duo Maschinenfunk and now together they run nights that bring rhythmic, percussive & atmospheric sounds to the city. She also hosts a monthly live radio show at community radio Melodic Distraction.

We are happy to welcome her to our family, and we hope you enjoy this mix as much as we do!

Subcora [Journey Series]

I’m happy to present you what happened to be a true adventure & a musical highlight for me this year, Journey to Tarab 2019.

The story takes place in two chapters, recorded on the Drachen Nest Saturday night in Zsambek, Hungary.

CHAPTER I

It’s 7:45pm and I’m in the DJ booth of the Drachen Nest, my equipment is connected and I’m ready to play. In the center of the dancefloor, a beautiful tandem are performing live with a super cozy setup & I discover the talented duo Ameli Paul. The stage manager gives me a sign that it’s their last song, and I have my intro tracks and samples selected - I’m ready to go and ecstatic to play. 

As my first track is playing, it only takes a few minutes before the wind blows dark and dense clouds hover above our heads. The rain starts pouring; showers. I look down for only a few seconds to mix in the next song but by the next time I look up, everyone has vanished.

A small group of people with the most vibrant energy came to seek shelter in the booth and it truly cheers me up. I’m so excited to be there and I know that such heavy rain won’t last long, staying optimistic that people will come back.

As the rain calms down, people come back, one by one. Umbrellas, raincoats, mud & smiles. The crowd continues to grow and I get to meet my dance floor one person at a time. The rain has stopped. The Drachen is blowing smoke while the sun disappears & I feel the dance floor is finally in symbiosis. I evolve tempo by a few BPM & as my most energetic track of the set drops…

B L A C K O U T. No sound, no light, it is total darkness on the dance floor, a complete power outage.

I always found it challenging to record a studio podcast: my analytical mind is trying to calculate every move, evaluate each transition & criticize the selection. I have time, music & equipment at my disposal, but one key element is missing to really tell a story: humans.

I encountered that problem last weekend. Although I was playing music I enjoy, I felt that my technically structured mix was too stiff and impersonal. 

____

Then, some of my favourite humans turned up at the studio. As Ashley, Apolline, Axel & Robin entered the room, the studio was suddenly filled with a great energy & I felt like pressing the rec button again, just for fun - this is when the first minutes of  S y m b i o s e  were captured.

I feel this studio mix is an authentic representation of the energy levels I like to navigate through during a longer set. It features some of my favourite tracks in a nod to the past but also has a touch of the future; new sounds that are moving me forward & some of my new compositions.

I’m happy to share this mix as I’m taking off for Argentina, what marks my first adventure of the decade. This music session brought me clarity, presence & joy! I hope you'll resonate with it.
