Rockwell returns to his Obsolete Medium imprint for its third release - “Isolation Ritual”. Featuring the distorted crescendos and dissonant echoes of the Alix Perez supported track ‘Vent’, and ‘Ditch’ - a pulsating and dub-siren heavy collaboration with the man of the moment, Workforce. 

“ ’Isolation Ritual’ was borne out of me examining the relationship between my writing practices and my life outside music. For years I would shut myself away from the world in my windowless studio, concentrating on making music. It became normal for me to spend long periods by myself, isolated from the world outside and my friends and family. Over many years I became increasingly withdrawn and detached and struggled for objectivity. Tasks that would normally take an hour were taking days, as I was constantly second-guessing myself. My output ground to a halt.  

Making changes to both my creative process and the relationship I have with my music has been massively beneficial to my productivity and also to my wider mental health. Music is starting to flow again naturally. It is a slow process to unlearn years of bad habits, but hopefully ‘Isolation Ritual’ is a step in the right direction.”

One of the most exhilarating talents to come out fo the drum and bass scene in recent times, Rockwell has been heralded by the likes of Billboard, FACT, RA, Mixmag, CRACK and DJ Mag. He has released on some of the biggest and most revered labels in the game - Metalheadz, Critical, Shogun Audio Neosignal and Darkestral - and collaborated with a range of artists including Roni Size, Flowdan, Sam Binga and Breakage.

A past alumnus of both Radio 1’s Residency and ‘In New DJ’s We Trust’’, his debut album ‘Obsolete Medium’ was released on Shogun Audio in 2015 to critical acclaim, with Billboard selecting it as one of their top 10 Electronic LP’s of the year. 

2020 sees Rockwell continue on his mission, undertaking further sonic explorations with his label OBSOLETE MEDIUM.

This tune was meant to be a joke for Instagram. In less than 6 hours it turned out to be one of the most unique compositions we’ve released to date.

Since April we have released 2 EPs. Formation and Hyperdrive which represented our heavy bass music side, however as this year comes to an end, we thought it would be nice to introduce an organic sound that could serve as a soundtrack to creating nice memories over the upcoming Christmas holidays.

We also made a decision to raise awareness about the current situation in the world - COVID 19, current regulations around it and our thoughts about it in our Vlog about this tune. It's up on our main socials.

All the proceeds from this release will be donated to “COVID 19 Appeal and NHS Charities Together“ as a way to say Thank You to those who are taking care of the nation during the COVID 19 pandemic.

I'm aware i'm known predominantly as a label owner and a DJ so i’ve been using this time during lockdown to work hard on my production and push my music forward. It was amazing to work with Slay, an MC who’s energy and delivery I love.
The 2 sides of the single are pretty contrasting, with the lead more of a club tune and the flip being something a little more introspective. I hope you all enjoy the music as much as i did making it.
