Hello, I’m Sharlese Jul-anetia Metcalf, she/her pronouns. My DJ name is Sharlese and on IG it’s Sh6rl6s6. One fun fact about me is I like to write fan mail. I’ve made many friends this way. I like to tell people that I like their music or their mixes so they feel appreciated. 

Who/what currently inspires you music-wise that has nothing to do with music?

Riding the bus. I ride the bus to and from work, mostly and sometimes I don’t listen to anything, but the natural noises from the bus. Sometimes it gets real wild with situations and other times, it’s just regular busy bus noises. 

Favorite sound in nature? Describe how it makes you feel. 

I love the sound of the wind. Sometimes she starts screaming and I feel like she’s telling me to stop overthinking. I find some comfort in hearing the wind, she’s moving things around and adding some texture to the world. 

What was your best moment on the dance floor?

Watching Pablo Bozzi at the XXX-Floor at Berghain and crying for his entire set. Questioning my life, my contribution as a DJ and my overall purpose and absolutely dying over his set. I kept dancing and I wore sunglasses and kept getting compliments on them. Some people noticed that I was crying and asked me if I was ok, others offered me drinks and the rest complimented me on my sunglasses. This entire situation might sound awkward, but crying felt good and thinking about my life felt necessary and seeing Pablo was essential because I love him. I was alone and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I learned so much that day, about myself and a bit of the club world and I’ll never forget it. I’m still processing and also finding it a bit funny that I was so dramatic. 

Longest you've stayed up and why?

Three days because I was at Movement in Detroit and I didn’t want to miss one thing so I went for it and it was all worth it.

What was your first gig? How did it go? 

My first gig was at a space called Electric Tea Garden in Seattle. I played witch house, minimal synth and cold wave. They were a bunch of tracks I found on a blog site at the lowest of the low quality. I was trying to mix it, but I had no idea what I was doing. Someone actually came up to me and asked if I was a new DJ and I felt so embarrassed. Overall I give myself an A+ for cool tracks and knowledge, D- for the quality of the tracks and C- for not knowing how to handle the situation and an E+ for feeling embarrassed. 

Any advice to upcoming DJs?

Do it because you love it and you don’t have to say yes to everything and you don’t have to be at every after-party to get a gig. 

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

More headlining slots featuring black and trans women and the termination of hierarchical name positioning on event flyers.

For the last podcast of 2022 we wanted to bring someting special. We have a lot of artist's who inspired us to open Lethal Curse but there is one special duo called "Belief Defect" which had a huge impact on the idea of our label. Curse 007 - Belief Defect

Gregor Tresher kicks off 2015 looking to break new soil with his first ever full release for John Digweed's Bedrock Records.   

Last year was as hectic as ever for the Gregor and he came into it on high from the success of his artist album Nightcolours and having closed out 2013 by releasing an astonishing Laurent Garnier remix of the title track, on his own imprint.   Time to relax a little maybe? Not a chance. January saw the remixed version of the album hit the stores and this was backed within a few weeks by 'Taurus', Gregor's enticing collaboration with Petar Dundov. The summer saw him remix the Chymera classic 'Shadowdancer' and he closed 2014 with the superb 'Midas / Disturber' double-header.   

Somewhat of a musical chameleon, Tresher is as at home creating deeper shades of house for the likes of Moon Harbour and Ovum as he is techno rhythms for Music Man, Cocoon and Drumcode.   With label boss Digweed a huge fan, Bedrock is yet another perfect fit for the German and he opens his account with the mighty, melodic and Kraken'esque 'Goliath' and the razor-sharp lightning bolt that is 'Stormblade'.

2016 was a standout year for Alan Fitzpatrick, with the Drumcode stalwart racing out of the gates in spectacular fashion with the release of his fabric 87 mix. A substantial amount of high profile shows followed, including appearing at the inaugural Junction 2 festival and closing the car park to a packed-to-the-rafters-crowd at Drumcode Halloween. He returns to Drumcode with ‘Brian’s Proper Dun One’, marking his first appearance on the label since late 2016 when he remixed Moby’s seminal ‘Porcelain’.

The release opens with ‘Brian’s Proper Dun One’, a track which caused a Twitter meltdown on Alan’s profile when he first started playing it at the tail end of 2016. Loaded with sharp and pounding drums, this is an ethereal experience from start to finish and packs a real punch. It’s a no holds barred, certified main room anthem. ‘Wait A Second’ feat. mc r1bbz has been a staple of Adam Beyer’s sets of late and has been getting a lot of air time on Drumcode Radio. This rave inspired track takes a raw, stripped back approach and delivers a real killer blow. Alan sampled the vocals of mc r1bbz from an LTJ Bukem tape pack from the early 90s and the record tips its cap to early jungle raves around the M25. The release closes with ‘Trance, Init?’; A homage to Alan’s days first and foremost as a raver before he became a DJ, with his non-purist attitude when it comes to electronic music shining through. The breakdown is sure to be a hands in the air moment at festivals all over the globe this summer.

Drumcode continues its commitment to releasing the scene’s most cutting-edge techno. With releases this year already from Adam Beyer, Pig&Dan, Alan Fitzpatrick, Dense & Pika and Julian Jeweil, this July see’s the return of Enrico Sangiuliano with ‘Astral Projection’.

After his remix of Moby’s of ‘Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad’ back in November last year, Enrico sought creative inspiration from his travels, transcending that into his productions and long studio sessions during the winter months. The result brings a mind and body melting release from the Italian producer.

The title track ‘Astral Projection’ is a captivating, big room techno masterpiece. Deep reverberations punch alongside a sinisterly crisp percussive drive. Launching into a groove laden synth modulation of low end textures, it breaks down into an ethereal amalgamation of pads and synths before the vocal launches, taking this track to another level.

‘Blooming Era’ has destructive dancefloor intent. There is no holding back with the low end synth modulation which Enrico has mastered to perfection. A tightly woven percussive flare moulds flawlessly with the rolling oscillations of the beast of this track.

If you have seen label head honcho Adam Beyer playing anywhere on the globe in the last 5 months, this has been a peak time favourite. Road-tested to the max, and with much success.

The 55th edition of the MindTrip Podcast, comes from the west coast of USA and it's courtesy of Drumcell. Real name Moe Espinosa, he has was born in San Gabriel Valley, a culturally diverse neighborhood that still breeds inspiration for his work. San Gabriel Valley is also where he and the Raíz brothers, Vangelis and Vidal, met and founded Droid Behavior in the early 2000s which lead to the infamous Interface warehouse series and launch of the techno label Droid Recordings. He has a long history as a dj and producer of original and remixed tracks on his own label Droid as well as on CLR, Electric Deluxe, Dystopian, Torque, Detroit Underground, and much more.

In 2016, Drumcell debuted his ambient project HYPOXIA on his experimental label BL_K NOISE. Inspired by science fiction soundtracks and the sounds of artists like John Carpenter, Wendy Carlos, Goblin and Vangelis. Hypoxia was created to step away from the dance floor and into a broader space of contemplative drama. Drumcell explores and discovers the analogue world as much as the digital world of music production, to finally combine them into his very own raw, suspenseful and hypnotic style just like he perfectly expressed it on his debut mix for the MindTrip podcast here.
