This is the full recording of my last performance on the UNDERGROUND stage in DETROIT for the Movement Electronic music festival 2013. ive been attending the festival for over 12  years now and this year was by far one of the most memorable nights ive ever played in detroit. The bass on that stage is still till today the most intense things ive experienced in my whole DJ career. In order to continue playing we had to duct tape every piece of gear to the table and the faders on the mixer would not sit in one place ... although these technical issues presented problems in this recording. i decided to publish it as it is in order to preserve the memory of this day. Hypoxia is a new project i created to pay homage to the science fiction, late night cult film soundtracks that inspired me so much growing up. The sounds of artists like John Carpenter, Wendy Carlos, Goblin, and Vangelis played a big role to a kid who spent most of the 80's watching movies on VHS over and over again. I wanted this release to step away from the dance floor and into a broader space of contemplative drama. The Hypoxia tracks were single takes I performed live on my Buchla Music Easel, (a portable semi modular synthesizer that was originally created in the early 1970’s). The signal was then fed through Eventide Space Reverb and recorded to an old Akai reel-to-reel tape machine with no post-production, computers or overdubs.

I really wanted this project to be crafted 100% in Los Angeles, California, including me having a personal hand in every step. For me it was the first time in over a decade to take this task on my own. From writing and performing, final mastering and plating, pressing the records, creating the artwork and designing the packaging, and finally silk-screening the jackets. I purposely cut out any distributors and wanted to sell on Bandcamp, individually shipping these records to supporters directly.

Limited to 200 pressings, Hypoxia comes in an assortment of five colors, each carefully crafted by hand-mixing the vinyl materials at Capsule Labs Record pressing plant in L.A. The clear plastic case was individually hand silk-screened at Gliese media studios with the Drumcell sigil in red ink. All shipments include a 12x12 lithograph of artwork I created on a circuit-bent video processor made by Tachyons+.

As a follow-up to the sold-out and critically acclaimed ‘A Constant Preparation For Loss’ EP, Moe Espinosa’s Hypoxia presents 'Unwilling Suspension of Disbelief', a two track EP containing improvised pieces of music captured in front of a live audience in two cities on two continents.  
  
‘Distant Mystic’ was recorded in Berlin inside of a vast industrial hall that provides the perfect atmospheric environment to vaccinate melancholy in its melodies.  ‘ 

'Active Tension’ was recorded at the debut label showcase for BL__K NOISE.  The performance was orchestrated in front of the very close audience from which Hypoxia draws influence. 

This unpolished recording process embraces all the imperfections of improvisation and eschews any post production or overdubs.  Single tracks are performed live with a Make Noise shared system modular synthesizer through a Strymon blue sky reverb pedal. 
   
Like the first Hypoxia record, Hypoxia II was crafted 100% in Los Angeles, California with the artist’s hand in every step.  This personal approach to bring art to fruition proves tedious and time-consuming – the transportation of the raw vinyl material from manufacturer to pressing plant in LA traffic, the hand-pressing of each record in a blistering lab, the design of artwork and packaging, the shipping each order received to the artist’s bandcamp page.  Despite the toiling efforts, Moe feels this process is the most rewarding in sharing his work.

Limited to 300 color pressings, Hypoxia II comes in a large assortment of colors, carefully crafted by hand-mixing the vinyl materials and experimenting with different combinations at Capsule Labs in Los Angeles. The record will also be available on black vinyl for audiophiles preferring a higher quality sound. 

Colors will be selected at random when shipping.. Not one vinyl record will look the same there for it will be too difficult to match everyones custom requests....

Its been a total honor for me to work on a remix featuring someone ive been influenced by since a very very young age not to mention a TRUE electronic music pioneer. The remix is a bit different but i decided to stay closer to my industrial roots on this one and take a different approach to the original track by staying within the same Tempo range.
