ORBE arrives on the label with a brace of high energy, atmospheric dance floor cuts. Leaning tentatively towards a more booming, warehouse-ready finish, the four track EP channels funk, density and smart sound design in equal measure.

Tripping opener FM-2030 marries a bold, aquatic lead sequence with glassy pads set in the sonic periphery that serve to create a pleasing sense of suspension. Drum machine flourishes help guide the recording onwards, increasing intensity where required and exuberant synth hits wax and bend in support along the way, tying up a classy, rolling number. A-side follow up Extropy features booming, fathoms deep low end and that same sunk, introspective finish. Noisy percussive elements inject groove and dynamics to proceedings while a growling synth shifts in and out of view for added effect. The caustic Transhuman builds itself around a single warping lead, expertly tweaked and plied along its run time to generate a palpable hysteria. Buoyed by expertly centred kicks, it’s a powerful piece of off kilter dance floor material. Closing piece Posthuman Being drives the record home - an expertly executed slice of peak time Techno, complete with driving bassline and crisp atmospherics for added character.

Peggy Gou’s Gudu label announces the second edition of its Various Artists compilation series, Gudu & Friends Vol. 2.

First launched last year, Gudu & Friends Vol. 1 featured eight new tracks, from already-established label regulars (DMX Krew, Mogwaa, Hiver, Dukwa, Brian de Palma) and a trio of new faces (Closet Yi, Salamanda, Lady Blacktronika). In keeping with the international outlook and spirit that has always been at the forefront of Gudu, the compilation comprised artists from South Korea, Italy, the UK, USA, Korea and Ukraine.

Released on May 2, digitally and as a limited cassette edition, Gudu & Friends Vol. 2 features a batch of new faces to the label — Alinka, Gina Breeze, Jordan Nocturne (featuring Coco Cole), Minju and Nyra — alongside Hiver, Mogwaa, Dukwa and Matisa.

Each Gudu & Friends compilation will have artwork tied into the lunar new year. For Gudu & Friends Vol. 2, the art comes from illustrator Jin Young Choi (who also illustrates the Gudu Mix series) and reflects the year of the dragon.

Release Info: 
Continuing their love of collaborations, Township Rebellion return to Truesoul with another sublime two-track outing, this time teaming with the rising Flanko.

German collective Township Rebellion have been in plum form in recent times, their two contributions to Truesoul ‘Bohemia / Mephisto’ and ‘Expand Now / Adriana Said’ produced alongside Victor Pilava and NoNameLeft respectively were proof in point. On the live front, they also delivered a strong performance at Drumcode’s Drumsheds show in March on the Truesoul stage. It’s been exciting to see them develop and become mainstays of the label.

Their latest offering sees them broaden their sonic palette, as their signature rolling progressive sound, rubs shoulders with darker techno realms via a link up with their friend Flanko, a producer with credits on Senso and Set About to his name.

‘Your Reality’ is a big barrelling ace, six minutes of enveloping synth layers, dreamy vocal clips and pummelling bass. This is beauty and power in full motion. Stunning. ‘My Prophecy’ is another delicious juxtaposition of dark and light, as organic bass and gritty techno drums find harmony alongside exquisite melodies, all topped off by the producers’ exquisite sound design.

"Music shouldn't have boundaries, so we often thought about combining our melodic sound with the cosmos of dark techno. And we always loved the moment of surprise of bringing harder techno into our sets. This appreciation is what formed our series of collaborative releases on Truesoul. Now we are back with two new tracks we made with Berlin based DJ/Producer and very good Friend Flanko. After 22 light-years Luke Slater’s Planetary Assault Systems keeps exploring space and time with different musical means. Staying true to the project’s initial mission statement, Slater comments on the new yet familiar musical direction: “For me music has to go forward. I’d feel I was cheating by sticking to tried and tested formulas. There’s a valid use for these, but this album has its own agenda.” With Arc Angel, Planetary Assault Systems departs to new musical frontiers by focussing on melody, but staying rooted in the purist values of Techno that Slater shaped over his decades- and generations-spanning career.

Ø] Phase presents two striking, no-nonsense techno cuts for TOKEN85. Each side of Suspended Animation delivers the special kind of face melter that manages to remain sincere without being overly self-serious. Stroke B favours the sensational approach, with a bright and playful lead playing against a hi-hat frenzy in the breakdown. Stroke C is more introverted on surface level, but offers pure chaos instead from its depth.

TOKEN85 - Ø [Phase] - Suspended Animation

Rising UK artists Rene Wise and Billy Turner each deliver two deep techno cuts for the sixth chapter of @mote-evolver’s ‘Parallel Series’, curated by label founder Luke Slater.

Inaugurated by Luke Slater (as L.B.Dub Corp) and ASC in 2011, ‘Parallel Series’ has continued to host split releases from the likes of Shifted, Samuli Kemppi, Bas Mooy, Chris Finke, Developer, Truncate, Sev Dah, Jeff Rushin, and more. 

For its next installment, Brighton based producer Rene Wise returns to Mote-Evolver with two tracks, having debuted on the label last year. 

Both tracks are choice cuts picked by Luke Slater who’s been hammering Wise’s demos in his sets throughout the last year.
