Berlin based Felix Reichelt comes into the fold and follows up releases on Volume Berlin, Clepsydra, Chlore and Phuture Wax Records with 2 brooding cuts that slot neatly into the Kuukou catalogue.

'Midnight Echo' fires things up with some immaculate sound design and an immediately infectious groove. Each and every sound is deftly carved into it's own pocket and each drum artfully plotted to generate a raw, kinetic energy; a hypnotic sense of motion that works to ferry the listener into a sweet spot between rushing and dreaming. 

'Funkturm' follows up with a clinic in atmospherics. Micro FX are carefully crafted, each given a life all of their own and beautifully melded together into a vibrant collage that circles the plug hole without ever fulling sinking. The result is a deeply effective DJ tool for energy levels up and dance floors dialled in.

Adam Beyer’s Drumcode juggernaut attracts more fans and critical plaudits with each passing year. Holding firm on its future facing ethos, techno’s number one label presents a new volume in its acclaimed A-Sides series with 20 prime tracks to signify its 20th anniversary. 

Such is the volume of quality music Adam Beyer receives throughout the course of the year, releasing all of it would be impossible. Enter the blue chip A-Sides series: a chance for the quality-obsessive label head to issue a collection of outstanding tracks that couldn’t fit in their regular EP release schedule. 

With an eye on future talent, as much as the label’s established roster of heavy-hitters, the compilation showcases the full breadth of Drumcode’s multifaceted techno sound, equal parts inspiring and functional. 

Led by the stealth techno funk of ‘Nine of You’, Beyer’s deft collaboration with Mark Reeve, the compilation takes in exciting highlights from big guns such as Alan Fitzpatrick, Dustin Zahn, Bart Skils, Pleasurekraft, Luca Agnelli, Jay Lumen, Kaiserdisco and Gary Beck. 

The rich vein of form displayed by emerging techno talent is similarly given prime position. Rising DJ/producer Boxia makes his Drumcode debut, fresh from a well-received warm up set for the crew at the hugely successful Junction 2 festival in London, while the likes of Enrico Sangiuliano, Juan Sanchez, Ian O’Donovan and Timmo also drop fire, establishing their credentials as some of the most promising talent breaking through the ranks in 2016. 

Reinforcing the global scope of the label, artists such as The Junkies from Toronto and Layton Giordani from New York, prove techno is winning a place in the heart of the new generation of artists coming out of North America.

Shlomi Aber makes his debut on Drumcode Ltd with a piercing four-tracker for the vinyl only offshoot.

Israel’s Shlomi Aber remains of techno’s most consistent artists, with a career stretching back 15 years. The label boss of Be As One, Aber has also had his music released on such imprints as R&S, Figure and Ovum, reinforcing his status as a purveyor of classy yet impactful techno. 

His contribution to Drumcode Ltd puts a fresh take on the classic pounding DC sound of the label’s early years, an era the DJ/producer has long been a fan of. Beginning with ‘Inflict’, the EP lays down its heavy-hitting intentions from the onset, as a persistent muffled vocal build beneath a bed of steely percussion, creating a dark tension-filled atmosphere. ‘Accelerator’ follows, the title track that was quite literally born at Basel’s own techno temple Nordstern this year when Aber crafted it into a stunning cavernous beast, using his 909 and XOXBOX Acid machine. ‘Typeface’ is stripped back and functional, an energy-packed tool for building extended techno journeys. The four-piece is rounded out by the fantastic ‘Rain Storm’, that lowers the intensity, as the six-minute cut introduces a new groovier element to the work and concludes the EP is sharp fashion.

Don Weber is an exciting young talent working his way through the ranks, with DJ support for his music coming from the likes of Joseph Capriati, Sam Paganini, Luigi Madonna, Spartaque and Paco Osuna. Already he has had tracks chart inside the techno section of Beatport’s Top 100, and this is another EP that showcases his exceptional talent for unmistakable riffs and explosive percussion.
The EP opens with the hypnotic vocals of “No Excuse” that has old school chord stabs and thumping percussion at the heart of its full throttle groove. Next up is the pounding kick drum and bleeping euphoria of “Exstasy”, before the final track “Get up” finishes the release with a bang.
