Paul Ritch is no stranger to Drumcode and has returned with an outstanding single featuring three tracks that will dominate DJ sets. The first track ‘Run Baby Run’ entertains us with an arpeggiated chord sequence that is accompanied by percussion-like synth sounds before bursting into a thick-layered sequence of sound. The dark and dubby side of the single see’s Paul’s ‘Astral’ bring a funky sleazed out groovy track that also uses a discerning melody. ‘Mind Insistence’ is a dark 5am groove that will keep the dance floor swaying in the early hours with it’s tripped out feel and syncopated percussion.

The Manic Brothers six track EP begins with ‘Praying Mantis’; a deep techno offering using a swelling bass line that rumbles under the track whilst the distinctive synth phrase shifts the groove of the track. ‘Voices’ huge hypnotic stabs generate a late night dub that uses sparse percussion and interesting delay effects to mesmerise the crowd. ‘Life After Life’ is a more euphoric and delicate take on techno and uses subtle percussion and melodies to create an ethereal felt track. Using a more industrial style of techno, ‘Hidden History’ includes lots of snare rolls and a stab that is infectious whilst rolling over a heavy kick drum. ‘Introduction’ is a long player and takes it time to slowly build synth melodies and stabs that morph into an unbelievable record. ‘Morning Mass’ rounds off the EP using an unusual rhythmic instrument and beautiful synth pads to create a record that leaves you wanting more.

Rose Ringed EP17

Rose is back with a new EP on his label Closed Eyes Recordings. With three intense tracks which travel from dark to uplifting melodic techno. The EP’s story is about our society slowly becoming more and more focused on the individual which makes people more insecure, stressed, and in need of some kind of savior.

The first track named Relieve me has a strong bottom end and a vocal that preaches in Latin. The track has a dark feeling with a strong aggressive mid lead sound which catches your attention immediately. Rose: “When I played this the first time I was amazed by the crowd's reaction to the breakdown, originally it did not have the Latin speaking preacher in there but to me, the track missed something to tell the story. When I added that Latin speaking vocal back in the studio the track finally came together"

The second track named Save me was produced most recently and starts with an addictive tom groove leading up to a big Reese base and stabbed chords that instantly lift your mood. The big breakdown is a true classic rose-ringed hands in the air moment, the beautiful chord progression takes you into a new dimension before the hook hits again. Rose: “This track was inspired by the tendency that people can have of needing something external to make oneself happy or healed again, I played it at marktkantine and noticed how it changes the mood to a more open and euphoric mood when I play it. 

The last track named Help me is truly one of a kind, it doesn’t follow one key but changes the whole key up and down. It leaves you with a feeling of constant tension which never seems to resolve. The enormous stabs and strings make this a perfect big room festival track. Rose: “This one came together in a very creative way of arranging, I had all clips lined up and came up with the idea to change the pitch of all the instruments - except the drums - during my live arrangement. You can see the original recording moment on my Instagram reels. The track was inspired by the feeling of being chased by troubles and the urge for it to end.”

Being released as a special marbled vinyl that comprises of two tracks, Alan’s original uses a large heavy kick with intricate high hat patterns that please the ear and add some funk to a heavy straight kick drum. The stabs are the main feature of the track and add a palpitating rhythm throughout before the main pad enters and packs it out. Benjamin Damage steps up to deliver an outstanding remix of Alan’s original and creates a more chuggy, brutal bludgeon. He uses Alan’s original stabs in a more aggressive manner that see’s Benjamin’s remix soar!

EP opener ‘Redemption’ pairs a chunky, driving bassline with a similarly assertive breakdown. ‘Sternengleiter’ ​follows and ​offers the record’s most emotive and hypnotic moments, with title track ​‘Butterflies’ ​closing out the EP which sees him sculpt eight minutes of delicate, fluttering techno. ​"As a butterfly you feel free. The EP starts with Mikael Jonasson’s, ‘Benefit of the Doubt’ which uses dark, melodic bleeps to create tension before the epic chord stabs kick in that resonate over the throbbing bass line. Adam Beyer steps up with the second track ‘Never Really Left Home’ that uses a rhythmic synth-line to create a dark and moody piece of music. Ida Engberg then delivers her unique style of techno using old rave sounds and a huge hoover style synth to create a driving techno track that will keep any dancefloor moving. The Manic Brother’s supply another big track named ‘Different Directions’ using reverberated stabs to create an atmospheric, but still functional track with lots of rhythmic percussion thrown in. Patrick Siech then steps up with the next track, ‘Kill Room’ that also uses atmospheric percussion and stabs to build into a funky drum groove. Joel Mull presents the sixth track on the compilation; ‘Rimson’ that uses hypnotic drums to captures the listener’s attention to lead into a floaty synth and vocal line before the track introduces a pulsating bass line. ‘Second Coming’ is the next offering with Petter B using recurrent percussion to full effect to create a purposeful, heavy hitting techno track. The final track by Cari Lekebusch called ‘Xylopeggiator’, conveys a dark, pounding 5 AM rhythm that uses vocal samples and a melodic synth to create a hypnotic drum pattern.

Drumcode storms into 2013 after releasing some superb tracks in 2012 which included celebrating their 100th release with an outstanding EP from Adam Beyer and Ida Engberg. Also releasing some exceptional tracks from artists such as Alan Fitzpatrick, Jay Lumen and Gary Beck, Joseph Capriati, Gregor Tresher, Sam Paganini, Nicole Moudaber and Ben Sims. Heading into 2013 Drumcode are keeping up the refined techno that they have displayed and are making sure that they continue to keep up this form throughout the coming year.
Roberto Capuano is a name heard before at Drumcode, releasing his debut release on the 15 year anniversary compilation with his track ‘Oblique’. Gaining support as a producer, Roberto has released on record labels such as Analytic Trail, Phobique, MKT, Monique Musique and Suara. He has gained a lot of support from Adam Beyer, Richie Hawtin, Joseph Capriati, Umek, Carl Cox and Alex Under amongst others. Roberto has also been Djing around the world at venues in Europe including the famous, “Old River Park” amongst others.
‘Vertigo’ is the A side on this four track EP by Roberto Capuano that uses reverberated kick drum’s and piano chords to create a groove that was designed for peak-time play. The second track, ‘Inversion’ uses rising and filtering synths with the use of space and influxes of pitched hi hats and percussion loops to create a 5am track that will keep people rooted to their spot. ‘New Chapter’ uses a repetitive percussion-like stab to keep the deep atmospheric sounds together over the industrial techno drums.The final track ‘Earth’ uses phased sporadic stabs to create an interesting groove that compliments the driving drums that are ever present.
